In an odd column complaining about football commentary in the UK, the author asks the question "Is quidditch the worst fake sport ever?"
While watching the latest Harry Potter movie, the author questions the rules of the game; its popularity in the wizarding world and sportsmanship.
The author equates
quidditch to basketball and the worthlessness of the game:
Running simultaneously are: a version of basketball, where players are required to punt a ball called a quaffle through various hoops; a perversion of the kind of bodyline swingball favoured by hyperactive 10-year-old boys, where the aim is simply to whack one of two balls called bludgers at your opponent; and the search for a tiny flying ball called the Golden Snitch, which must be captured for the game to end, and is worth an instant and wildly disproportionate 150 points.
So to clarify, I am required to keep my eye not simply on three balls at any one time, but also on a winged snitch (which is virtually invisible to anyone in the crowd anyway), the capture of which almost without exception renders the preceding however many minutes or hours entirely worthless.

Well if the team that catches the snitch wins it wouldnt matter giving them an extra 150 points because they won already. I like how many points the snitch is worth. It is after all impossible to catch right? I think quiddich is an awsome fiction sport and if we could really play it in real life it would definatly become one of my wanting to learn how to play sports.

I actually would love to play Quidditch [mind you it's impossible because there aren't really flying brooms and balls with their own minds] But if it were a real sport I am sure it would be just as popular with the Muggles as it is with the Wizards and Witches. And to the UK author, I bet you're just jealous that you weren't first to invent Quidditch, along with the Harry Potter series. So there! :)

Hey, I think quidditch is really really cool. I think that it sounds like soooooooo much fun. I would love to play quidditch. Quidditch can emphasize how important the whole team is by making the snitch worth 150 points. Oh well, maybe the guy complaining about quidditch just wanted something to write about.

Quidditch rules!!! Who ever wrote that has proberly only seen the last film, and has no idea what it's really about. It is totally fair to get 150 pionts for catching the snitch. It is just about impossible to see after all. Plus catching the snitch dose not always mean you win the game.

Yes, it may be too simple, but that is what makes it great! we have so many games these days that are just so complicated (aka: football) that it is nice to have a nice easily understood game that is tons of fun! Maybe 150 points is a little disproportionate but then it is cause for strategy for the team that is behind AND ahead, and it isn't as if catching the snitch is very easy either! Not everyone can do it, it takes a certain skill, just like any other game. So i don't think that this author had any right to bash on the game.
