In an odd column complaining about football commentary in the UK, the author asks the question "Is quidditch the worst fake sport ever?"
While watching the latest Harry Potter movie, the author questions the rules of the game; its popularity in the wizarding world and sportsmanship.
The author equates
quidditch to basketball and the worthlessness of the game:
Running simultaneously are: a version of basketball, where players are required to punt a ball called a quaffle through various hoops; a perversion of the kind of bodyline swingball favoured by hyperactive 10-year-old boys, where the aim is simply to whack one of two balls called bludgers at your opponent; and the search for a tiny flying ball called the Golden Snitch, which must be captured for the game to end, and is worth an instant and wildly disproportionate 150 points.
So to clarify, I am required to keep my eye not simply on three balls at any one time, but also on a winged snitch (which is virtually invisible to anyone in the crowd anyway), the capture of which almost without exception renders the preceding however many minutes or hours entirely worthless.

Overall, i think that quidditch is a great fake game. i have no problems imagining the game play. but the only thing i think is true of the article is the disproportionality of the snitch point value versus the quaffle.

How can some diss Qudditch? I think it is the greattest made up sport in the world. My mates and I tryed playing our own randition of Qudditch last summer and we came the the conclusion that if the wizarding world was real then Qudditch should be a majpr sport played by all witches and wizards because its awsome.

I think he has a point, and if quidditch were real, it might actually matter. If quidditch were a sport that could actually be played, I think it would go through some drastic changes. However, quidditch is the way it is for a reason, and its a game that suits the wizarding world. It wouldn't be nearly so exciting it it were structured any other way!

I believe that this person is just weird if they can't get the point of quidditch is just plain sensless....it projects the books even farther to Harry's abilities.....if it wasn't there then Harry would have no real good abilities. Also the point of the Golden Snitch is to make the game go on as long as possible, the reason is b/c your supposed to have the person that can see the best as Seeker, so they can end the game as fasta s possible.

Well I agree that the Snitch is probably worth a bit too much, but that's it.
This person is probably one of very very few people that feel this way. Jo has put so much detail and such into the sport, one might almost think it is real.
