Another Harry Potter actor was in New York this week to attend the Tribeca Film Festival. Alan Rickman (Prof. Snape in the Harry Potter movies) attended the premiere of his movie Snow Cakeopens in new window last night with actress Sigourney Weaver.

You can view some hi-res images of the event hereopens in new window courtesy of Getty Images, and a clip from the movie hereopens in new window.

Thanks to Michelle who sent us the last picture from the screening, she also let us know that Alan was also in town to find a new theatre venue for his play, My Name Is Rachel Corrie. Thanks to everyone else who emailed.

I feel the need to help everyone out on here. Nobody seems to be aware of Alan Rickman on this particular comments page, everyone just knows him as Snape.

And this pic is from February of 2006 at the Berlin Film Festival, just before his 60th birthday.

All right, so what I was going to post didn't come out.
Let me try again. This hopefully should be a pic from the Berlin Film Festival back in February, just before he turned 60.

I believe someone had said they'd seen him in a movie on Comedy Central recently. Well, that would be Dogma, below, which he played Metatron in.

MWbashfulAR says:

Alan Rickman has been working in film since his debut in Die Hard in 1988. He was the Sheriff of Nottingham in that Kevin Costner movie Robin Hood, which Alan Rickman stole the show in, like he always does. He also has appeared in small indie films such as An Awfully Big Adventure, Close My Eyes, and Closet Land. He later appeared in Sense and Sensibility, Rasputin on HBO (love that one), Galaxy Quest, Love Actually, and Something the Lord Made on HBO. He seems to really enjoy filming the Harry Potter movies and is currently taking a quick break from filming OotP to search for a theatre in NY which will run the play that he co-wrote and directed, My Name Is Rachel Corrie. Over the last summer and into this past fall, Rickman filmed Nobel Son which will come out around September, possibly, as well as Snowcake which is premiering now and will be released hopefully in December. Furthermore, Rickman also filmed Perfume: Story of a Murderer with Rachel Hurd-Wood and Dustin Hoffman last summer, and that movie is set for a Halloween-ish or November release.

Alan Rickman is such a great actor! He is exactly like I would have imagined Snape if I had read the books before I saw the Sorcerer's Stone. I also like him in Sense and Sensibility. He's a very good Colonel Brandon. :)

That movie sounds pretty good. I'll have to look into seeing it. And I'm always up for a good play. And with Alan Rickman how could it not be good?

MWbashfulAR says:

The play doesn't have Alan Rickman in it, he directed it. It was "postponed" by the NY Theatre Workshop from being put on back in March, then it was announced to be in the Seattle Repertory Theatre's spring line-up for 2007. He is determined to have it shown in NY because he knows the kind of attention it would get there. It is highly political and caused a lot of stir when the NY Theatre Workshop cancelled it, thus labeling their move "censorship." Evidentally agents and phone calls and middle men aren't working so he wanted to go to the theatres himself and try to work something out personally. Very admirable.
