Last month we told you that the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire DVD had become the fastest selling DVD ever in the UK. Well now, the DVD holds
the Guinness World Record for being the fastest selling DVD of all time beating out Shrek 2 and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
In the UK the DVD sold five copies per second and in the US over 5 million copies were sold on the first day of its release.
This achievement will be added to the 2007 issue of The Guinness World Records book which will be released this coming August and will include a picture of the award being presented at Leavesden Studios in April.
HPANA wishes to congratulate everyone involved with the Harry Potter series and for bringing enjoyment to so many fans.

Well, I'm not surprised at all. After all this is a popular movie/book for both children of all ages and for adults of all ages. And it's a great story with lots of good things put in it as well as the magic bit. I bet it'll hold this record for many years to come.

Ok...big CONGRATULATIONS to Harry Potter, but i have admitt...we all knew it would reach this height someday! We were all waiting for it, now it's here!
It's so overwhelming I must say, too surreal.
But it is a great achievement we all helped build. Lets hope the next harry potter movie will have the same effect.

Even though the dvd is the moving version of the book the credit here has to go to the author. I particulary admire and support the fact that she was involved through the process from book to movie and that she waited to find a studio that would remain true to the books (Rebecca Allison,The Guardian,Wednesday September 5, 2001).I think that it did a lot for the movies and kept the movies purer than they perhaps would have been.

That is wonderful. I bought the special edition on the morning it came out. Goblet of Fire is my favorite Potter movie so far. Can't wait to see all the records the next movie will break.
