Patrick Stewart, who plays Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie series, lamented at a Cannes Film Festival press conference
recently that he hasn't been asked to be in the Harry Potter films.
"Every single actor over 60 in England is in the Harry Potter movies," he replied when asked if he wanted to continue doing fantasy films. "I am still smarting from the fact that Ian McKellen starred in Lord of the Rings and apparently there was no part in it for me."
Prior to the X-Men films, Stewart was best known for his role as Jean-Luc Picard in the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation.
X-Men: The Last Stand opens in theatres this weekend.
Thanks to Angie for the tip!

Mr Fishbein says:
"Every single actor over 60 in England is in the Harry Potter movies," - that's not a very nice thing to say. It comes across as though anyone who's anyone can get into Harry Potter movies. It kind of sounds like he saying he wants to do Harry Potter because lots of other people have.

Emma's true fan and lover says:
That is quite peculiar. Even though Sir Ian McKellen has not had a part in Harry Potter, his recent movie projects would surely make one question as to why they might be sidelined.
Patrick Stewart is an incredible part of today's movie industry. Not being a big Star Trek fan has not hindered my admiration for him. I believe his movies over the years leave out a significant part of himself. The movies don't exactly reflect the true skills Mr.Stewart carries.
He can easily play the part of the younger Voldemort who comes to Dumbledore looking for a job.
There are, I'm quite sure, a small number of other opportunities as well in the upcoming movies. Who knows, maybe the 7th and final book has a character who only Patrick Stewart could do justice.
There is still plenty of time before anyone should feel really sidelined and rejected, I'm hoping fine actors like Patrick Stewart don't get the chance to do that at all.

First of all. I'd love to see him get a part. He's a superb actor. Secondly, to those who want him as Dumbledore, while Gambon isn't the ideal as far as the charcter description goes, I still think he does a great job; besides... can any of you really picture Stewart with long hair and a beard??????? As far as characters left for him to play, he's not really the Slughorn type, but maybe there will be a new and amazing character in the seventh book that's perfect for him. Or maybe he could be the new minister of magic?

That honestly does suck that they haven't asked him to be in a Harry Potter movie yet. I mean honestly, I'm sure he could make a better Dumbledore than Gambon *rolls eyes* who is absolutely atrocious.

Gamdon gave a rather arrogant interview that he never read HP stories and did exactly what HE wanted to do (even totally against all that we know is Dumbledore. DD would NEVER yell at nor manhandle a student!). Pffffttt on him! That's why they call it 'acting', the stupid twit. Now, I love Patrick, but I do not feel he would be a good Dumbledore. He is far too sexy. Maybe with a lot of hair, he could be Scrimgeour. That is a strong persona he could portray. Who knows what JKR has up her sleeve, maybe a more perfect character will present themselves in book 7, but I still vote for Scrimgeour as the only viable option for now.

Aww, Patrick! I think he should be in the films. Although I don't know as who so maybe that's why he's not. Maybe there just isn't a perfect part for him in the series.

I sympathise with Patrick! I have thought that he would make a better Dumbledore than Michael Gambon. He's nowhere near top of my list to play DD, but his name has crossed my mind.......

Now I've thought on it a bit, he would be great as Scrimgeour, wouldn't he?
BUT, I'm quite sure he was kidding. He's like that. The newspaper has just made it look like he was serious. Actually, I think one of the other comments on here gave a more realistic description of what he'd said, making it clear he was joking.
