Patrick Stewart, who plays Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie series, lamented at a Cannes Film Festival press conference
recently that he hasn't been asked to be in the Harry Potter films.
"Every single actor over 60 in England is in the Harry Potter movies," he replied when asked if he wanted to continue doing fantasy films. "I am still smarting from the fact that Ian McKellen starred in Lord of the Rings and apparently there was no part in it for me."
Prior to the X-Men films, Stewart was best known for his role as Jean-Luc Picard in the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation.
X-Men: The Last Stand opens in theatres this weekend.
Thanks to Angie for the tip!

That's kind of funny that he's so eager to be in the movies... maybe they can come up with something for him. He is an amazing actor, and even better on stage than in front of the camera. I saw him in 'Othello' once and was blown away -- I think he actually could bring a lot to the HP series... just not sure how.

*chants* DUMBLEDORE! DUMBLEDORE! DUMBLEDORE!
Patrick Stewart would be...amazing! But even my mother would make a better Dumbledore than Gambon, and she's 5 foot 3 with short brown hair and no aptitude for acting. Someone really needs to start a petition...

It would be great to have him as an actor. He is wonderful in his roles and not just those that he would be known for. Other than weight, he would possibly make a good Prof. Slug.

Patrick Stewart is a terrific actor they should ask him to be Professor Slughorn I'm sure he could do it. It's kinda weird they haven't asked him to be part of the series, maybe they weren't sure what part would be right for him or if he would be interested. Good Luck to him!

I think he would have been a better choice for DD then what we have now, but alas it's too late for that. I think he would be a wonderful addition to the HP cast. Maybe he'll be the new MOM in HBP (Sorry can't spell that name and don't feel like getting my book to look it up.)

Everybody wants to be in Harry Potter. Its a great series. I can't picture him playing DD though. I don't know what part he could have played.

In another article about X-Men opening at Cannes, it was asked if they thought one could have "too many franchises in one's career" so they talked about the big ones - LOTR & HP. And shoot, since HP has the potential to make seven movies, I'd want to get on the bandwagon too.
From Reuters: "I am still smarting from the fact that Ian McKellen starred in Lord of the Rings and apparently there was nothing for me," he joked, as McKellen looked on smiling.
"Harry Potter has gone through five incarnations. Every single actor over 60 in England is in the Harry Potter movies. I'm smarting from these rejections."
I laughed out loud when I read the article. Maybe they'll be a part for Stewart for the seventh movie...

I think he'd be perfect as Phineas Nigellus. He has got an amazing voice. I can hear him in my mind saying the "Dumbledore's got style" line to Fudge from OoTP.

I'd LOVE to see Patrick Stewart in one of the Harry Potter films. He'd certainly have made a better Albus Dumbledore, in my opinion. ooooh Maybe he could be Aberforth Dumbledore! Especially if the Aberforth role grows in the final book. In the movies, we really haven't seen much of Aberforth, just a sort of shaggy passerby. Mr. Stewart needs to get his agent on the phone!

I absolutely LOVE Patrick Stewart! He's an amazing actor, and a darn good voice actor, too! He could play several roles and probably take the spotlight from other lack-luster actors. ::cough Dumbledore cough:: There would be a lot of make-up for him to play Slughorn, but he could do it rather well. oooh! I really hope they don't pass him up!!!!!!!!!

He could probably make a good Dumbledore. Maybe they can chhange Gambon for him? Patrick Stewart is a wonderful actor and if he wants to be in Harry Potter then I think there mucst be something he can do. What about Scrimgeour. They could fix him up to play that.

I absolutely adore Patrick Stewart and I completely agree with him about not being in HP. I think he should have been Dumbledore after the passing of Richard Harris. He has the same elegance, and twinkling spirit, and would have just been an EXCELLENT Dumbledore! Michael Gambon is nothing like the Dumbledore we've all come to know and love. At least that's my opinion.

I don't see him as Slughorn. If they don't get Bob Hoskins as him, I will be upset.
Anyway, I can see him as Aberforth, maybe Rufus. It would have been nice to see him as Dumbledore, but then he probably wouldn't have been able to play Xavier in the X-Men films.
