Patrick Stewart

X-Men 3 star wishes he were in 'Potter' Popular (12719)

Patrick Stewart, who plays Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie series, lamented at a Cannes Film Festival press conferenceopens in new window recently that he hasn't been asked to be in the Harry Potter films.

"Every single actor over 60 in England is in the Harry Potter movies," he replied when asked if he wanted to continue doing fantasy films. "I am still smarting from the fact that Ian McKellen starred in Lord of the Rings and apparently there was no part in it for me."

Prior to the X-Men films, Stewart was best known for his role as Jean-Luc Picard in the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation.

X-Men: The Last Stand opens in theatres this weekend.

Would somebody over at Warner Bros. wake up!

Ditch Gambon (who has been slaughtering the part of Dumbledore) and GET STEWART!

For pity's sake, the man's practically BEGGING for the role!

I wish he's in the Harry Potter movies, too! I think he's a fantastic actor. He'd be a perfect Dumbledore. Honestly, I don't like how Gambon plays the role (too energetic and out of character, if I must say so). Well, he's suited for another role, too.

I wouldn't mind him in the HP movies...hmmm, who could he play? Definitely a good guy-I don't think he'd do well as a bad guy.

Well, there's still two movies to go!

Good luck Pat!

I think the only reason reason they dont offer him a part is bec he's been influenced by americans alittle too much. I mean american knows his work better then the brits. I think he crossedover to the american dark side. Plus I think Pat is just alittle jealous he's the only over 60 brit actor not apart of it. But I would love to see him in a part equal to his talents.

I still think Ian McKellen should have been the second Dumbledore. He was too busy with other projects at the time but maybe there is still hope for the sixth and seventh movies.

I wonder what HP character Patrick Stewart could portray. I don't think he has a lot of flexibility as an actor but he is superb in strong, commanding roles. I wish I lived in England so that I could see him and Dame Judi Dench in the Shakespeare plays being staged in Statford on Avon this year. It would be awesome to see them performing live.

What character could Judi Dench play?

Oooh! I posted before reading other people's comments. I think that people who suggest Patrick Stewart should play Slughorn are just trying to fit him in anyhow. Someone suggested he play Phineas Black and the is an absolutely brilliant suggestion. Can you here his dryly ironic voice? How do we petition the casting director?

BTW, Ian McKellen's performance was, without a doubt, the highlight of the Da Vinci Code movie. I didn't even know he was it it! I went to the movie purely because of my respect for the two lead actors (especially Audrey) and detirmination to see anything they were in but I was finding it very difficult to watch until I heard Ian's voice.

Stewart as Phineas is a brilliant idea! However, I'd quite happily have him play Dumbledore simply because Gambon is murdering the role and needs to go.

I don't know how to petition the casting director but if you want to email Warner Brothers here's a link:

http://www2.warnerbros.com/web/main/help/customer_service.jsp

Given the strength of opinion expressed just on HPANA, I think that if everyone who has commented emailed WB, they might just sit up and listen. Well, it's worth a try isn't it?

I'd love to see a better Dumbledore but I feel McKellen's a better choice than Stewart, I wantd him when Richard Harris passed (sniff) Stewart could easily play Phineas (who only appears in portraits BTW) or a yet unknown character. I think he could play either good or evil, maybe he could be DD's brother, Aberforth (depending upon how this character plays out in the last book)

He's great in X-Men of course. I plan to go see that this weekend during a study break.
