Bloomsbury publishing director Liz Calder said the next and final Harry Potter book is "likely" to be released in 2007... she hopes.
At the British Council's Creative Future
conference in India this week, Calder allegedly said as much in an interview
with Indo-Asian News Service:
"One more 'Harry Potter' only but she (Rowling) said from the beginning that she would write seven. So she would not write another one after this. But Rowling would write other books for us," said Liz.
"The next 'Harry Potter' book is likely to come out in 2007. I hope so."
While Calder's comments are optimistic at best, she's one of only a handful of people other than Jo herself who could make such a weighty prediction.

That awsome that its coming out in 2007, but sad that she will only write seven, how she'll end it i have no idea, but im sure she'll make it awsome! i only hope that book seven and movie 5 dont come out too close to each other, im all for book seven coming out on 7/7/07 (that would make me extremely happy becuz its my 16th b-day) but if movie 5 comes out 7/13/07 (my moms b-day...wow thats pretty freaky) that would probably be a little too close together for some people

I don't know what I am going to do with myself when I have all that spare time, since I won't be making up HP theories anymore! I think it would be awesome if HP7 came out on 7-7-07, but I hope that and the OotP movie don't come out too close together. I'd rather spread it out to make Harry Potter last longer!
I hope JK keeps writing after HP. I will read all of her books, but I don't think anything will be as great as Harry Potter.

Hey, I like her optomism ; ) Actually, I don't see any reason why book seven shouldn't come out summer 2007, other than that it would be like a month away from the OotP movie. Unless, of course, she decides to make the book like a thousand pages which delays its release a year. Either way, we win.

Four words - I . . . sure . . . hope . . . so. That would be so awesome - I know I am having trouble waiting for Book 7, although it will be bittersweet when it does come out, for then the saga is over (except in fanfics). But it would be incredible if it did come out next year - whee!

I am excited about this book, but I really don't want to push her any faster than she needs to go. I want this book to be really good. She has a lot to accomplish in this book, so lets let her really make this book special.

I wonder if there is any connection between this story and the story further down the page predicting that children's books will decline in 2007 as there is no Harry Potter due. Liz Calder might just be making optimistic pronouncements to increase people's confidence in her business.
Personally I think they will get the Harry Potter book out as soon as it is written, whenever that may be, rather than deliberately aiming for a significant date. But really, I don't think anyone can be sure yet when the book will be finished; if JK makes a prediction then I'll take it seriously, but, otherwise...
