Bloomsbury publishing director Liz Calder said the next and final Harry Potter book is "likely" to be released in 2007... she hopes.
At the British Council's Creative Future
conference in India this week, Calder allegedly said as much in an interview with Indo-Asian News Service:
"One more 'Harry Potter' only but she (Rowling) said from the beginning that she would write seven. So she would not write another one after this. But Rowling would write other books for us," said Liz.
"The next 'Harry Potter' book is likely to come out in 2007. I hope so."
While Calder's comments are optimistic at best, she's one of only a handful of people other than Jo herself who could make such a weighty prediction.

I wonder if there is any connection between this story and the story further down the page predicting that children's books will decline in 2007 as there is no Harry Potter due. Liz Calder might just be making optimistic pronouncements to increase people's confidence in her business.
Personally I think they will get the Harry Potter book out as soon as it is written, whenever that may be, rather than deliberately aiming for a significant date. But really, I don't think anyone can be sure yet when the book will be finished; if JK makes a prediction then I'll take it seriously, but, otherwise...

I hope so too. It's already starting to set in that we don't get any Harry Potter this year. Between the movies and the books. I mean, GoF was released to DVD this year, but I was looking forward to something new. So it had better be next year.

I really hope it comes out soon!! Early 2007 would be Terrific! I've never imagined Jo writing any other books! I hope she does and if she does..i wouldn't mind her writing some stuff about magic ...she seems to have a knack for it!

It's true that she cold be considered an insider, but again, not even Jo could know exactly when the book will be released - it's too hard to predict the length of time it'll take to write the book.
Anyway, I'd prefer she took longer and wrote it brilliantly, than took less time, and wrote it less brilliantly (mind you, it would still be excellent, jsut not AS excellent!)

Yahay!! I'm killing myself waiting for the last Harry Potter book. It HAS to come out on 07/07/07, because I just CAN'T wait any longer!!!!!! Even though it's sad that there won't be any more books after that, if there is a good conclusion to it, then we won't feel the need for another one so badly. Also, I do hope JK Rowling does write some more. I don't know whether it's possible to ever write something as good as Harry Potter, though. I'm really crossing my fingers for some more schoolbooks, like Fantastic Beasts. Or maybe Harry's son/daughter????!!!!!!

Well considering we have herd no recent news on how JK is going with the writing of the seventh book, its hard to say whether the 2007 release date will be kept. I hope its not too far away though!
