I only managed to catch a brief report on the 6pm news. There was no mention of HP. But, did hear the Queen talking about "Magic and fantasy being necessary for society these days." (or something very like that!)

I was one of the lucky one's to attend the Queen's birthday party. JKR looked very glamourous, and does not look like she is 40! Unfortunately she wasn't signing autographs but posed for photographs for some fans from within the 'celebrity' tent. During the performance, Rupert, Emma and Matthew were sat in front of the queen. I was sat not to far away, but only could get a glimse of them if I stood up.
There were some fantastic gifts. After walking through the palace (which none of the children seemed impressed with), we went into the garden and recieved a programme and disposable camera. Which were both fantastic. We then had to collect our picnic, which was huge! We had one each and there was enough food to feed a family. These were also amazing, with hats, flags, blanket and suntan lotion. It was then off to meet the stars - well childrens tv charactors. I'm 22 and I loved it!
I couldn't believe how small the queen was, and was a bit upset because I didn't see her smile once. All of the children enjoyed the day out! I'm just glad I had a nephew to take as I thoughly enjoyed myself and the entertainment!

For anyone who wants to see the whole of the children's show (which was an hour and a half long) it sounds like there are plans to release it on DVD.

A DVD and souvenir storybook based on the script of the live show are also planned, available this summer... more details soon
And yes, the Queen did get her handbag back, I seem to remember the crowd said "Accio Handbag" and the thief (played by Bradley Walsh) appeared with it amidst a cloud of smoke. (I think he was Burglar Bill? or maybe I'm showing my age).
The Queen came on stage and Tracy Beaker (the girl who plays her in the TV version) gave it back to her. The Queen then said that she was very pleased to have her handbag back. And everyone heaved a huge sigh of relief!! I tell you, it was tense there for a while!!!

I thought the little scene in Hogwarts was going to be really cheesy and awful but it was quite well filmed - although some of the acting wasn't perfect - I noticed Emma was a bit wooden and none of them were as good as they could have been. Pretty good stuff though.
Not as good as the actual OOTP film though. :)
