Rowling discusses last 'Potter' book, deaths

JK Rowling appeared on the Richard & Judy Show in the UK, and had a few things to say that may interest fans.
Some highlights from the show:
- Book 7 is NOT finished but she is well into it
- The final chapter for book 7 has changed slightly - two more people have died than she originally planned and one other person has got a reprieve
- Jo first wrote the final chapter in 1990
- She has regretted writing some parts where she may have boxed herself in, earlier in the series
- Jo says Ron is generally more popular than Harry -- remembers seeing an unofficial poll on a fansite reflecting this

- She would be willing to kill Harry in order to prevent future authors from writing sequels
- She was in denial of her fame for the first three books, shocked when the press made slight reference to Potter
- Jo mentioned she is indeed wealthy, but many stats are falsely reported
- Jessica, her daughter, is often pestered at school for upcoming book titles, plot details, etc.
- Jo has written half of another children's book in her spare time
- Her boggart would be that of Mrs. Weasley's: her children dead
- She made up the rules for quidditch in 30 minutes after a fight with her ex-boyfriend

I'm not really sure who is going to die, I'm thinking that Snape may be one of the 2. Also there is a posablility that it would be some one from the Order, maybe Mr. Weasley!?!

Oh, lovely highlights of the interview. I wont bother to watch seeing as how I am dreadfully busy. I am not surprised that she is willing to kill Harry. And, despite protests, she was not famous at all when I first start reading the books. At that time I was seven-ish and only three books were out! I didn't (as did most others) even know her real first name.

I am very curious about this new book, another series perhaps??? Exciting! Same world? Oh, I want details. I only wish she was able to blurp out books as fast as some of the romance writers seem to be able to (without sacrificing quality that is).

Sounds interesting, though I never had a doubt that she would, if she had to at least, kill off Harry. I don't know if she would just do it like that though, since she herself said she isn't up much for changing stuff around.

Wow! 2 deaths is the last book....just what I thought. I think Harry and Voldamort will die because they can't live without each other. I think Harry will be the last Horcrux and he will have to sacrifice himself in order to save the world from Voldamort...or more importantly Ginny! The only way Voldamort can die is if all the pieces his soul are destroyed. And if Harry has a piece of Voldamort's soul inside him, he will have to die in order to kill Voldamort. Harry is Voldamort's most dangerous enemy...what better way to protect yourself than by planting a piece of your soul in your enemy???

I don't understand Ron being more popular than Harry. Sure Harry has had his bad moments( personally OOTP is my favorite of the series) but Ron is a immature brat. I don't think that she will kill Harry off because she doesn't want other people to write after her. That is the stupidest reason to kill a character that I have ever heard.

I'm excited to read the 7th book, but i kinda don't want it to come out coz then it'll all be over and there wont be any more to look forward to=( its gonna be weird not having a million questions about what's gonna happen nxt!
I dont think that Harry will be killed off coz he's the character the audience is meant to be able to relate to, as we've been with him through everything, and this would mean that JK's sending the msg that Harry can't overcome everthing which would be the wrong msg to put out- so it would be wrong of JK to kill Harry. Although if Harry dies to save the wizarding world, like if he has to die to kill Voldemort, i guess that's the heroic type of thing Harry would do & that'd be okay (altho sad).Also what perspective would the story be told from if Harry is dead, as we always read from his thoughts and everything...unless it was the very last thing that happened, but i hope it isn't.

Some how this really doesn't come as a surprise to me. It is the final battle after all, there are going to be casualities. Now that doesn't mean I want to see 2 main character dies, but it is going to happen.
16 years ago I was in 7 grade, man I am old. I really wonder how many other authors write the ending of their books before they even have a start. I have a feeling it may be more common than most people think. You seem to know the ending better than the beginning, and then write everything around that ending.
