Rowling discusses last 'Potter' book, deaths Popular (70514)

JK Rowling appeared on the Richard & Judy Show in the UK, and had a few things to say that may interest fans.

Some highlights from the show:

  • Book 7 is NOT finished but she is well into it
  • The final chapter for book 7 has changed slightly - two more people have died than she originally planned and one other person has got a reprieve
  • Jo first wrote the final chapter in 1990
  • She has regretted writing some parts where she may have boxed herself in, earlier in the series
  • Jo says Ron is generally more popular than Harry -- remembers seeing an unofficial poll on a fansite reflecting this

You can read the rest of the highlights hereopens in new window courtesy of SnitchSeeker, but since they seem to be having server issues, here they are for now:

  • She would be willing to kill Harry in order to prevent future authors from writing sequels
  • She was in denial of her fame for the first three books, shocked when the press made slight reference to Potter
  • Jo mentioned she is indeed wealthy, but many stats are falsely reported
  • Jessica, her daughter, is often pestered at school for upcoming book titles, plot details, etc.
  • Jo has written half of another children's book in her spare time
  • Her boggart would be that of Mrs. Weasley's: her children dead
  • She made up the rules for quidditch in 30 minutes after a fight with her ex-boyfriend

UPDATE: You can see some screencaps of the video hereopens in new window courtesy of MNopens in new window. Reuters also has an articleopens in new window online with some direct quotes.

UPDATE II: You can now watchopens in new window the video of Jo's appearance on the show, thanks to Ciaran from MuggleNet.

UPDATE III: Transcripts are now available hereopens in new window and hereopens in new window.

as long as neither ron, harry, hermione, ginny, or the twins die...I´m happy...but i have a sneaking suspicion that one may die...i´m thinking it´s either the twins or ron and hermione...but that wouldn´t be a good ending because you know harry would never be able to get over that.

I wonder if perhaps Hermione might die? Everyone expects Ron to go but JKR might go for the shock factor. I'd be devastated either way as I want them to grow up, get married and have lots of bushy haired, red headed Weasley children! I do think Harry will have to sacrifice himself though.

Harry's Echo says:

What a great and frustrating interview, all at the same time! It's always great to hear from Jo, and also always frustrating because though she says a lot, she never really SAYS anything, if you know what I mean.

I am not surprised that two more got bumped off, I expect Voldemort to go, and possibly Snape, and as for the rest- I expect to see maybe Mr and Mrs Weasley? It'll be someone really unexpected, which makes me hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope hope against all hope, that it's not Harry.

I want my happily ever after ending of Harry and Ginny getting married, Ron and Hermione getting married, everyone having lots of kids, living in a peaceful Muggle/Magic world, for ever and ever.

But knowing how great a writer Jo is, it's probably going to be a lot more complicated then that!

Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canucks out there!!

WOW!That sounds interesting!I never would expect that Ron would be more popular than Harry. It sad to think that two more characters are gonna to die.I just watch the interview with JK,it was shocking to know that she already wrote the final chapter or ending since 1990.WOW!That goes to show that she already know what will happen in the end even before the first book was publish.

This is very dissapointing that Book 7may be the endof the Harry Potter series. But looking from Jo's angle it is good to stop the most popular novel in the world. As a writer she has every freedom to stop her novel or any other works. All the HArry Potter fans are waiting for the death of Voldemort or the climax of Harry Potter series, but they don't want to stop it at once.Killing Harry in the last book is very much painful. So I think that she will not kill Harry in the last book.i.e Book 7 (may be the last book of Harry Potter series)

I don't want neither Harry nor his best friend to die. I think J.K Rowling will not 'kill' Harry on the book 7 ( expected to be the last book of the Harry Potter series). But atlast it is pointing towards Hagrid. I also want HAgrid too to die

Well, I think we all knew that there was a chance Harry would be killed and I understand why she would do that. And I'm surprised Ron is more popular than Harry. But Ron is a good character but I think Harry is the better one.

Poor Jessica, being questioned all the time about things concerning the newest book. I feel for her. It's always the children who are hit the most.

I dont believe the 2 additional characters that are going to die are main ones. To kill off Ron, Harry or Hermione, she would need to write a whole story around, so she cant do this so easily. Either they were meant to die from the beginning or they will live.
