During the press day for M. Night Shyamalan'sopens in new window latest movie Lady in the Wateropens in new window, the direct was askedopens in new window if his new studio Warner Bros., who release the Harry Potter movies, had tried to convince him to direct one of the last two films in the series.

Shyamalan's reply when asked about directing a Harry Potter movie:

You know, that Harry Potter dance has gone on a long time. The problem is that it is a living breathing thing now, all by itself. When it comes over to my camp, it needs to be kind of handed over, adoption papers and everything. That's a tricky move.

I haven't met with J.K. [Rowling]. The first one was offered to me, but that conflicted with Unbreakable, which was unfortunate. I would definitely, but I think probably before that I would adapt a book. I've gotten close a few times to adapting books.

Shyamalan is widely known for his popular movies Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village, all of which he wrote and directed. Lady in the Water opens nationwide in the U.S. on July 21st.

He's got some good films to his name, not sure if he is appropriate for Harry Potter, even though the books are getting darker.

I never knew who was offered the movie... There can of course only be one per movie. :) I kind of like the idea that they keep changing, but in the same breath I don't like it 100% Too much freedom...

I can't wait for Shyamalans new movie and I recon he is a brilliant director. He has major skills with wrtieing and directing movies. It would be great to get him into the Harry Potter series and they should of done it sooner. Philosopher's Stone would of been so much better with him onboard. Cal

M. Night Shyamalan would be cool fir the HP movies. He is good with doing freaky movies that have awesome special effects. But I think he likes to wirte his own stuff.

Oh I quite LOVE M. Night Shyamalan. He's something truly fantastic. I can definitely understand the burden and pressure of taking something like Harry Potter over... if you notice, he typically writes and adapts all of his own stuff.

I can't imagine what a M. Night version of HP would look like?! I actually love his directing style, but Christopher Columbus did such a great job in my opinion...

I don't know if I'd want Mr. M directing any of the movies...he might turn them into something wierd and completely different...he has a knack of doing that to a movie...

That subject is a little iffy with mio.

He's amazing...I really don't know if he would be great for this though...his stuff is pretty dark and borderline crazy. HP is more than a freak you out at night kind of thing. I think its awesome that he is up front with that, though.

Come ON, M!!! He's one of my favorite directors (excluding The Village... I've just convinced myself that he had nothing to do with that movie). I would crap myself if he ended up directing a HP movie.

Holy freak! Happy Potter's not horror! His movies are scary - I would be soo freaked out if he ended up doing a Harry Potter movie. I dunno, I guess it's okay if he does. I dunno. I'm confused, and scared - a little.

He should have just dropped the Unbreakable and done the HP movie(s). It is in something that he might have been good at with all the scary things.

Whoa. . .Shyalmalan, doing H.P. That would be so. . . Different. Actually, I'd be willing to see it. Just to make sure he didn't screw it up. =) But then again, Columbus didn't do to great with the movies. . .

I loved the Village, and I can't wait to see the Lady in the Water. I wonder how he would do for an HP movie? I don't think number one would be the best film for him. I think OotP, HBP or number 7, which are darker and more adult orientated, would be better for him.

Wow, it would've been so different if Shyamalan directed the first movie. It probably would've been darker than Colombus'. They're both good directors.

I like to say a few words on this:[b]NO, NO, AND NO![b] I like his films but he's not right for Harry Potter. I think Chris Columbus should do the last movie as the director. What better person to start the movie then to also end the movie? It'll be great and he's the best for these movies but not M. Night Shyamalan. He'll turn them into horror films and they wont be very good, I woulnd't want to see them at all.

While I believe that Mr. Shyamalan's work is wonderful, and I agree that each HP book gets darker, I'm not sure they are THAT dark. I have enjoyed some of Mr. Shyamalan's films, but they are more than dark, they are sinister, producing unbelievable fear and evil ..... wait....... perhaps he would be perfect.

They would need him to do 6 and 7 though because after that there wouldn't be anyone to top him.

He could but I don´t think it would be a good idea... Harry Potter may get a little darker as time passes but I just dont see it being directed by Shyamalan. His style is different and details might change more... even though they tend to change in the actual movies, I just really don´t see it.
