Shyamalan would protect JK's work Popular (4078)

Earlier in the week we let you knowopens in new window that director M. Night Shyamalanopens in new window had been offered the first Harry Potter movie, which he declined due to other film commitments. In a recent interview, when asked about 'Potter' he addsopens in new window that he would be the "greatest protector" of JK's work, would choose the last movie if given a choice of which of the movies to direct and that passing on the first movie still "haunts him."

Shyamalan was interviewed by TLC and you can read a snippet from the interview below:

I would be the greatest protector of an author's stuff. Especially things that I respect, that I know there's inherently magic in it. I would be very wary of screwing it up, so I would be very careful....There's no way that it would be missed by lack of effort or lack of care or lack of attention. I would be giving it every single iota...I would cherish it.

You will be able to listenopens in new window to the full interview when it is released on Sunday.

I still dont know about him directing an HP film. He is too "out-there" for this kind of movie.

I really dont believe that he would protect it as much as he said he would. I do believe he would stick to the main storyline, but I think he has such a unique style, that he would have some new ideas that he would want too, and problably put in there.

good gawd, just wait till lady in the water comes out - then we can all get excited! hes got this thing were he has to make every single movie into this giant realization like. were all just ants living on the orange in a field. or some random stuff like that! i really dont want him to mess things up, i like the way its been going and he just seems like someone that would try and make some crappy mind bender out of it. i could just imagine him trying to end it like never ending story where theres a kid screaming at a book to help harry beat V. gawd that would be horrible!!

Wow, this guy is really pulling to get the last Harry Potter film. Before he said he wanted to make the film in his own interpretations. Now he says he'll do everything he can to protect JK's work. Its funny how we sing a different tune when we find things could go our way. hehe

He's not the only one who let the first movie pass. Didn't Steven Spielberg? Hmm, I'd have to see a couple of his movies before I would put my hand up to say he HAS to be picked.

Well when I heard there was going to be a Harry Potter movie, my first worry was that it was going to ruin the magic of the book. The GoF movie ruined the book by putting in so much useless stuff instead of the important stuff. I dearly hope OotP won't be the same. Thanks for the update.

Well, I guess that would be pretty cool. He does do horror films, but I am sure he will do a very good job. The Village was very good I must say though.

He would probably do a fantastic job with the final film. You know JK is the Queen of the plot twists, and he would make them look brilliant onscreen. Just the final one though, to make it stand out. hmmmmm......

Sounds like he might be a good director for harry potter! I had my doubts because he makes alot of horror movies but he could make a great last movie since it is so dark!
