Earlier in the week we let you know
that director M. Night Shyamalan
had been offered the first Harry Potter movie, which he declined due to other film commitments. In a recent interview, when asked about 'Potter' he adds
that he would be the "greatest protector" of JK's work, would choose the last movie if given a choice of which of the movies to direct and that passing on the first movie still "haunts him."
Shyamalan was interviewed by TLC and you can read a snippet from the interview below:
I would be the greatest protector of an author's stuff. Especially things that I respect, that I know there's inherently magic in it. I would be very wary of screwing it up, so I would be very careful....There's no way that it would be missed by lack of effort or lack of care or lack of attention. I would be giving it every single iota...I would cherish it.
You will be able to listen
to the full interview when it is released on Sunday.

I read it the last bit of news about him. A few days ago. He said he would make the HP film "his own" (about the 1st film). It made me think he'd turn it into another of his "M. Night Shamawhatever" masterpieces. I didn't even like his last few films. It just worried me. :)

That's really cool. I think he'd be a great director for the last movie because it gets darker and his films are really dark.

I really do love M. Night Shyamalan movies, and if he dose do a Harry Potter movie, I really hope he will follow JK's work and not add his own twists.

I think Shyamalan-ma-ding-dong is over rated. None of his films have done extremely well. I don't really want to see him direct a Harry Potter film. I am not a fan of his.

On that last interview I said I wasn't sure if I'd want him to direct. But it seems like he'd really stay true to the books So that's awesome. Maybe he should direct some.

I respect his words, but the thought, quite frankly, scares me. I guess I just don't care much for his work, and I'd be worried that it would bleed over into the story too much.

So does this mean if Shyamalan were to direct the last movie would it be 6 hours long so that he could put in everything possible?

It seems that Shyalman could manage a Harry Potter movie quite brilliantly. If he intends to match the author's work as much as possible, then the scenario might prove particularly thrilling. I hope he will eventually direct one of the movies. I also read somewhere that Terry Gilliam was interested in the job, as well. He too could give us a fine Harry Potter film.

Kedavra_Snape says:
If the producer didn't give Shyamalan the chance doing the first movie he shall have had his reasons.
Sounds like mr Shyamalan is a big fan of Harry Potter, but I doubt if he would direct as good as the other directors. I mean mr Alfonso was very good in putting down Hogwarts as a character as its own, mr Newell had a great way directing the actors, it's not as easy to come up with these talents and to come up with something new.
I repeat if the producer doesn't give Shyamalan this chance, I trust he will have made the best decision.
At least, that's what I think...
