Earlier in the week we let you know
that director M. Night Shyamalan
had been offered the first Harry Potter movie, which he declined due to other film commitments. In a recent interview, when asked about 'Potter' he adds
that he would be the "greatest protector" of JK's work, would choose the last movie if given a choice of which of the movies to direct and that passing on the first movie still "haunts him."
Shyamalan was interviewed by TLC and you can read a snippet from the interview below:
I would be the greatest protector of an author's stuff. Especially things that I respect, that I know there's inherently magic in it. I would be very wary of screwing it up, so I would be very careful....There's no way that it would be missed by lack of effort or lack of care or lack of attention. I would be giving it every single iota...I would cherish it.
You will be able to listen
to the full interview when it is released on Sunday.

Harry's Echo says:
Though I love Shyamalan, and loved all his movies I've seen so far (haven't seen Lady in the Water yet, obviously, and am a little skeptical of that one) I don't think I'd like him directing a Harry Potter film. Not sure why, and though he would promise to protect JKR's work, I can't see him being able to resist making it darker then necessary, with his own little surprise twists in there. I don't think it'd be a good fit.

He sounds like the best director for the movie if what he says is true. You always go to the movie excpecting to be a little dissapointed atlest once during the movie because something you thought would be in it isn't there. He sounds like he would try and fit in as much as possible and pretty much the same as the book!! I wouldn't mind if he Directed HP 6 or 7!!

I think that if he where to do the last movie it would be great because he would put a great amount of mystery to the movie and i think thats cool.

This is e bit complicated. You can't just take the work from one director for nothing. The recent director is Ok and if he's got that work, there must be a reason of taking it from him. So, I think Shyamalan won;t get HP7

He sounds awesome. Although it might not be his style, maybe it will turn out to be fantastic if he directs one of the movies. And I think he wouldn't change it around, so that'd be great!

Weird! I never would've pictured Shymalan as a Harry Potter fan! And it's surprising that he might direct future Harry Potter movies. I just never connected the two. But it sounds like he might do a good job with it. We'll see I guess!

Yes! I knew he could do it. He is totally the best. And he would most likely write the screenplay himself, so you know it'll be killer!

PhoenixPatronus2 says:
It's nice that he would try to preserve the Harry Potter 'feel' but I'm not sure how easily he could do it with the type of films he normally produces. In some ways I think he might be good at it, in other ways I think it could really go wrong no matter what his intentions are. I just hope that whatever directors end up with the last two films can do them justice.

I have to say he would be perfect for the last movie! We may not know how this last book will turn out but we can guess that it will have some pretty intense battleing so he would definitely be perfect. If he had accepted the 1st movie, I wouldn't doubt that he would agree to direct them all.

I really hope Warner Bros do offer movie 6 or 7 to him. I know that they were keeping Alfonso in mind because of how well #3 went (even though it seems that many people here hated it). But him doing the last movie would be great!

I would be interested to see what Shyamalan could do with a HP movie. He seems like he would be careful to stay true to the book. It's a thought.
