Earlier in the week we let you know
that director M. Night Shyamalan
had been offered the first Harry Potter movie, which he declined due to other film commitments. In a recent interview, when asked about 'Potter' he adds
that he would be the "greatest protector" of JK's work, would choose the last movie if given a choice of which of the movies to direct and that passing on the first movie still "haunts him."
Shyamalan was interviewed by TLC and you can read a snippet from the interview below:
I would be the greatest protector of an author's stuff. Especially things that I respect, that I know there's inherently magic in it. I would be very wary of screwing it up, so I would be very careful....There's no way that it would be missed by lack of effort or lack of care or lack of attention. I would be giving it every single iota...I would cherish it.
You will be able to listen
to the full interview when it is released on Sunday.

I would be interested to see what Shyamalan could do with a HP movie. He seems like he would be careful to stay true to the book. It's a thought.

It would be awesometo have that kind of combination. JK Rowling and M Night Shyamalan doing a movie together, her writings and his skill as a director. I love all of his and her books and all of his movies. It would be simply amazing. I hope she takes him up on the offer of directing the last movie, they aren't to far away from it.

Well, I'm not sure but it certainly sounds like he regrets turning down the first offer and now maybe just maybe he wants on the gravy train too.
I hope not. I hope he truly thinks he can do wonderful things for one of the coming movies. Maybe he will get offered one of the movies. It sounds like he'll try to stay true to the books.

Sounds spectacular, this man! I'm so pleased to hear that, if he does end up directing the seventh movie, he will try to stick to Jo's book, and not just sort of wing it by making it artificial. Amazing... I feel proud of this man because he really seems to understand the magic of Harry Potter. I hope that he does direct film 7 in fact.

I love Shyamalan's work and I would be eager to see how he would do movie 6 and/or 7. The later books take a darker turn, which I think would suit his talents.

Hmmm this guy seems really dedicated. I would like to see someone with this much dedication to JK's writing direct a Potter movie. I think the movies have been lacking a bit of this "protection". But then again, this much protection could also be a bad thing. With all the time that would be put into "protecting" the author's work, some other areas might suffer. It's difficult this directing lark isn't it?

Oh please Warner Brothers, let M. Night direct the last movie. Crap. Let him direct the last two!
Columbus will not do justice to the intensity of HBP.
Let M. Night write the screenplays for those movies too. PLEASE!!! I can't stand Kloves penning them anymore.

Oh my gosh, I love him. It would be brilliant if he directed the final movie, his work is awesome. What a rarity to hear a director say they would protect the author's work. I'm very impressed, come on WB, give him movie 7.

Regardless of the fact that he says he would protect JK's work, I don't know if he would do a very good job at this movie. I mean, he's done some good work and some really bad work from what I've heard. And I don't know if his style would be good for Harry Potter!
