Earlier in the week we let you know
that director M. Night Shyamalan
had been offered the first Harry Potter movie, which he declined due to other film commitments. In a recent interview, when asked about 'Potter' he adds
that he would be the "greatest protector" of JK's work, would choose the last movie if given a choice of which of the movies to direct and that passing on the first movie still "haunts him."
Shyamalan was interviewed by TLC and you can read a snippet from the interview below:
I would be the greatest protector of an author's stuff. Especially things that I respect, that I know there's inherently magic in it. I would be very wary of screwing it up, so I would be very careful....There's no way that it would be missed by lack of effort or lack of care or lack of attention. I would be giving it every single iota...I would cherish it.
You will be able to listen
to the full interview when it is released on Sunday.

That is great.
I think he would do awesome. There are very few directors who say that they would protect an author's work...

Just read a commentary on Shyamalan in Newsweek and they pretty much think that his career is in big trouble if he doesn't direct a big-budget crowd pleaser soon because he's currently mired in his own self-satisfying work (that no longer seems to be satisfying the audience). He sounds a bit too much like he's begging for an HP gig here, I'd say.

I completely didn't see that coming. I pictured him as the "directors vision" sort of guy and just do with it as they like. I'm glad that he hold HP so valuable. I think that he would do an excellent job. I think that they should offer him the last movie-he has my vote, can't wait.

It makes me want him to direct the last movie. Maybe he will make it two movies so that we could see all of the book. That would be so much better.

That sounds pretty promising to us, especially if it turns out to be true. I believe he would do good at directing an HP movie. heh, we don't even know how the seventh book goes, and already he's willing to direct it!

Ooh, the thought of him doing the seventh and final movie? that's enouhg to send shivers down my spine. but to also have the reassurance that he wouldn't go off on his own with the movie and be true to the book....well, what more can we ask for?

Well, I think he would be a great candidate for movie7. He will bring with him his special plot twisting stories, and all the other surprises.

I would love to see him direct one or both of the last two films. I think he's a very talented director and he has the coolest name ever.

Well now I really hope he directs the lasts movies. I hate it when they change things in HP movies. I can understand some things they have to but a lot of little things I don't like.

So, he would be interested in directing the 7th film! Interesting!! I think he would do a great job with the 6th film as well, but I guess that's just me! It's hard to believe that there will be only two more films after HP & the OotP!!

I bet hes been kicking himself over the past few years at giving it up. Seems most of his films have been dark so would be great to direct in the later books. Shame for him.

I would like to see Shyamalan direct HP7. I like seeing the books through the eyes of different directors. It keeps the books and movies fresh.

I love shyamalans work, and feel he does a good job of making scary films that are for a younger audience (12 or PG13). I'd be interested to see his take on a Potter book. I also think it would b a bit risky because he has his own unique style. You can tell when you're watching a M. Night Shyamalan film and it might take away the magic and uniqueness of a Potter film

Shyamalan is the guy who can treat such movies by the book. Hope he directs the next one.
