Shyamalan would protect JK's work Popular (4075)

Earlier in the week we let you knowopens in new window that director M. Night Shyamalanopens in new window had been offered the first Harry Potter movie, which he declined due to other film commitments. In a recent interview, when asked about 'Potter' he addsopens in new window that he would be the "greatest protector" of JK's work, would choose the last movie if given a choice of which of the movies to direct and that passing on the first movie still "haunts him."

Shyamalan was interviewed by TLC and you can read a snippet from the interview below:

I would be the greatest protector of an author's stuff. Especially things that I respect, that I know there's inherently magic in it. I would be very wary of screwing it up, so I would be very careful....There's no way that it would be missed by lack of effort or lack of care or lack of attention. I would be giving it every single iota...I would cherish it.

You will be able to listenopens in new window to the full interview when it is released on Sunday.

Sounds like he is willing to give it a go, but I'm still not sure his style of films is appropriate for a Harry Potter film. Who knows though he may do really well if he directs one.

I vote M. Night Shyamalan for president.

No, just kidding. He would make a good HP director though. He's quite talented in that field.

Sounds like he's wanting to do one of the last films, i personally think it would be great. He's a great director and the film he did would definately be the darkest of the series.

I still believe that he would be he best director for the 6th or 7th movie. He has a way of making his movies dark, and the last two books are definitely dark. I hope he gets over another chance to direct...

I'm sorry, but I still say that Shyamalan would be the worst choice to direct any of the Harry Potter movies. The best choice was Chris Columbus! He did such an awesome job with the first two films, and I really feel the films have suffered with his loss as director. The Harry Potter movies are NOT freak shows, and I fear that is what it would become were Shyamalan to direct.

It would be so amazing if he directed the 7th movie...I'm so tired of all of these bad versions! I guess that's kind of the writer's fault too though. They need some better writers.

Wow, I thnk it would be knid of amazing for him to direct a Hp film. I think he would bring out some of the more creepy elements of the story, and give the over story a darker feel. it would be really good for him to direct the last movie too, i think because if i'm correct the HP storyline has contiously moved into a darker plot, and mood, so i think he would be perfect to bring those elements to the screen.

I agree with Hermione 11! I'd like to see Chris Columbus come back to finish the task. This is a monumental undertaking. J.K. Rowling has changed the world with her creation of Harry Potter and I feel that Chris is the right person to bring closure to this phemoninal epic.

All this talk about Shyamalan being a director for Harry Potter is crazy.
I do not think he would do make a good director for the Harry Potter movies. Everyone is saying he would be the best but what about other directors returning like Chris Columbus or Alfonso Cuaron.

I would be very wary of screwing it up, so I would be very careful. I would hope that he would, for that matter any director would. While he is a brilliant director in many aspects I just don't see him pulling off any of the Potter films. But I would think that any director who wished to maintain his credibility with the paying public would strive to maintain the integrity of the piece. Especially one so wildly successful as the Harry Potter series.

This guy will screw the movie up. Oh, please don't let him direct a Harry Potter movie, he'll make it awful! I'm infuriated because of what he said, it seems like he's full of himself! Ahhhhh!!!
