Two million paperback versions of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are set to go on sale today
in North America. The book will cost $9.99 and is certain to be a best seller.
Previous releases of the paperback versions have reached the No. 1 spot and actually spent more time at that spot than the original hardcover versions.
On a side note, the The Kids and Family Reading Report, released by Yankelovich and Scholastic found that
:
...both kids and their parents credit the popular books with getting more kids to read for fun and with helping kids do better in school. Just over half (51%) of Harry Potter readers ages 5-17 years old say they did not read books for fun before they started reading Harry Potter, but now they do, and 65% say they have been doing better in school since they started reading the series. Parents see an even greater impact. The vast majority of parents (89%) say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child enjoy reading more, and 76% say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child do better in school.
Yankelovich
is a leader in consumer trends tracking and Scholastic
, is a children's publishing, education and media company which publishes the Harry Potter series in America.

That is SO TRUE. Before reading Harry Potter I wasn't too much of a book fanatic, but now I read more often than I used to. On top of that, HP has inspired me to write and to read/look for good fanfiction. AND HPANA has taught me that not using chatspeak is the best. Now I can't do chatspeak anymore except l*ol. :D

Its amazing that the literacy level has dramatically increased as well as school marks. J.K. Rowling should really be proud of herself, shes single handedly changed children all over the world!

How can it become a bestseller when all the fans already have their copies by now?? I know this one's cheaper so some might have saved some money, but knowing most fans wont wait... ah well...

Yes, I've been waiting for this! I need paperback versions of all the books - much easier to haul around (not to mention cheaper). Of course I already have all the hardcover versions, which I preordered months in advance and received at midnight, but that's beside the point ; )

I like hard cover. It's funny b/c the first one is the only soft cover I have but I like that cause it's like the first one is special cause it's the one that started them all, and it happens to be the one that's different from all the rest/

My english is better since i'm reading Harry Potter (in english) and i'm... 23! You can learn at any age, I'm an example. I wanted to know more about that language used for the original movies and writting.

I am so glad that more kids are reading because of these books. I really hope that more and more kids will find the joy in reading. I have been in love with books since i was very young and it hasnt stoped. Read to your kids then teach them to read and the earlier you start the more and more they will do it on their own!

Yeah, paperback is nice because it's cheaper. I got mine for though. It's kind of funny because I got it for a gift, but then there was a whole chapter missing from it. I wrote to scholastic, and they replaced my book for free. But anyways, I like paper back better because it's more portable, but since I already have the hard back I don't see the need to buy it again. Or actually buy it in my case.

It's really quite funny...I was just talking about this very same thing with some friends at "Molly's Table." My 2 older daughters have greatly improved in school since JKR & Harry came into our lives. As another person said (different site) JKR ismy Hero!!!

Its great that the book has been released cheaper. More people we have the pleasure of owning "Harry Potter".
Though I found that the hard cover books took the beating of being carried back and forward to school in school bags.
