Two million paperback versions of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are set to go on sale today
in North America. The book will cost $9.99 and is certain to be a best seller.
Previous releases of the paperback versions have reached the No. 1 spot and actually spent more time at that spot than the original hardcover versions.
On a side note, the The Kids and Family Reading Report, released by Yankelovich and Scholastic found that
:
...both kids and their parents credit the popular books with getting more kids to read for fun and with helping kids do better in school. Just over half (51%) of Harry Potter readers ages 5-17 years old say they did not read books for fun before they started reading Harry Potter, but now they do, and 65% say they have been doing better in school since they started reading the series. Parents see an even greater impact. The vast majority of parents (89%) say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child enjoy reading more, and 76% say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child do better in school.
Yankelovich
is a leader in consumer trends tracking and Scholastic
, is a children's publishing, education and media company which publishes the Harry Potter series in America.

I'll have to get one. I like the paperbacks for travel since they are lighter to pack.

Well, I bought a paperback for Chamber, since my hardcover for that was getting pretty beat, but I really dont see the point of buying the same book if you have the hardcover version already and its still in good condition. I am surprised that the paperback's actually reach number one. I mean, most people already went and got the hardcover on the release date.

I personally like the hardcovers better. And it's funny, because I started reading, like really READING, after I read the Harry Potter books for the first time. Now I'm the only person I know whos ever been grounded from reading. Have an awesome day everyone :)

Yay, I just got it!!! And my dad (who hasn't read any of the books) just randomly tried to read the last few pages... not a good idea!!! (Fortunately he didn't find anything out to spoil the plot)

Even though the book came out a while ago, I still get that anticipatory feeling when waiting for the paperback edition to debut. It is a miniature version of the actual release all over again!

I saw people putting the paper back cover on the shelves today. There were soo many books I'm beganning to wounder how many people haven't purchesed a book yet. By the looks of it I would say that many peole are missing out on how good the books actually are. I think that everyone should read the book before watching the movie so that you can get the entire expecicence of the world of harry potter.

I've always bought the hard-backs...I think they last longer and are definitely more durable...
I'm sure a lot of people buy the paperbacks so they don't have to spend as much on the books...

Cool! Always good to have a more portable edition. My paperbacks are all so dog-earred and beat to crap, I should probably replace them while I'm at it. I actually repainted the cover of GoF when large, bald white patches of paper began to appear on it.

My brother is one of those children who did not read for fun until he read the Harry Potter books. It's so great to see how significant an impact the HP books have made on the reading and school habits of children around the world. As a future teacher and HP fan this is very good news.
