Two million paperback versions of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are set to go on sale today
in North America. The book will cost $9.99 and is certain to be a best seller.
Previous releases of the paperback versions have reached the No. 1 spot and actually spent more time at that spot than the original hardcover versions.
On a side note, the The Kids and Family Reading Report, released by Yankelovich and Scholastic found that
:
...both kids and their parents credit the popular books with getting more kids to read for fun and with helping kids do better in school. Just over half (51%) of Harry Potter readers ages 5-17 years old say they did not read books for fun before they started reading Harry Potter, but now they do, and 65% say they have been doing better in school since they started reading the series. Parents see an even greater impact. The vast majority of parents (89%) say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child enjoy reading more, and 76% say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child do better in school.
Yankelovich
is a leader in consumer trends tracking and Scholastic
, is a children's publishing, education and media company which publishes the Harry Potter series in America.

It's actually funny, cause in Denmark the paperback version in Danish was the only version avaliable at first.
Now - when the paperback comes out in US- the hardback comes out in Denmark!
What a crazy world we live in!

Good prize for the book. :)
trezmcgonagall: Hi! I loved your comment! I thought no one else is there on this page who knows carpal tunnel syndrome :D *laughs* Are you a med student as well?
Anyway, paperbacks are better, but I like to have both ones if possible because hard cover ones last longer.

Hmm, now why would the paperback do better in sales? Well, I was thinking, maybe true Harry Potter fans want both the hardcover AND the paperback (that's probably why I'd buy it), and there are a lot of those, and those others that just want to wait for the paperback to read the book.
Harry Potter helped me. I started actually reading books (not for school) when I started reading Harry Potter, and I guess it helped me to concentrate. I love Harry Potter!

Ahh I bought one yesterday for my dad, 25% off at the local grocery store. His birthday was the day before, and I decided to give him HBP a day late. Hehe, I was the one that got him into HP in the first place.

That's great for those who were so patient enough to wait for the paperback release..... But I am impatient, therefore I got mine in hardback and read it as soon as it was in my hands.

Well I already own the hardcover version but I am really careful with that one when I read so I do not wreck it.
Having the paperback version would be very good just to have it there and not worry about wrecking it,

That was big news yesterday. I went to Barnes & Noble and it was a big deal. It reminded of last year when the hardback was released. I do not like paperbacks (damage easily) but YAY for HBP paperback

You know I never realized that the paper back versions didn't come out with the hard cover ones. I suppose the hard covers cost more so they're making sure all us crazy people who have to have it right away are buying the more expensive books. Oh well, I prefer hard cover anyway. I tend to fold the covers over on paper backs.

It's kind of late isn't it, releasing a paperback version months after the hardback. I personally think that paperbacks are easier to read but hardcovers look heaps better and they don't spoil as easy.

I am glad to say that I was in North America at the time of the paperback edition release. Although I admittedly didn't even buy it since I allready have the hardback, I just felt the need of gloating about my trip to the States. :) No really. Okay I think it's great they're releasing the paperback edition- much more economic for those families who have waited so long to acquire the book simply for price reasons (which my family was slightly too impatient to do). Umm for those of you who couldn't quite follow this rambling post, I'm sorry. Rambling posts do tend to happen to me sometimes. Long live HP and JKR, the Creator. :D

Those statistics are amazing! Though I can certainly see why they are true. I know that Harry Potter has really helped my young brother become more into reading. And it's really cool that a lot of kids do better in school. Funny how a lot of schools have banned HP, right?
