Two million paperback versions of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are set to go on sale today
in North America. The book will cost $9.99 and is certain to be a best seller.
Previous releases of the paperback versions have reached the No. 1 spot and actually spent more time at that spot than the original hardcover versions.
On a side note, the The Kids and Family Reading Report, released by Yankelovich and Scholastic found that
:
...both kids and their parents credit the popular books with getting more kids to read for fun and with helping kids do better in school. Just over half (51%) of Harry Potter readers ages 5-17 years old say they did not read books for fun before they started reading Harry Potter, but now they do, and 65% say they have been doing better in school since they started reading the series. Parents see an even greater impact. The vast majority of parents (89%) say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child enjoy reading more, and 76% say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child do better in school.
Yankelovich
is a leader in consumer trends tracking and Scholastic
, is a children's publishing, education and media company which publishes the Harry Potter series in America.

Well I've been very lucky in that I have all the books. It's a mix of different themed covers, paperback and hard copy. I love the fact that they're not all the same, but the story links these amazing books together. For those in the states though, I hope they enjoy this new edition.

That's really not a bad price. I got it in hardback, and am slowly replacing mine with Canadian hardbacks because they changed some words in the American version.
Wanted hardbacks too since the paperbacks just don't last, not when they are that large.

I think that's JK's biggest accomplishment. Getting kids to read again. I almost think that the movies ruined it a little, because now they can simply watch the films and not read. Oh well, it's all about money...

Thats cool. But I don't understand if you buy the hard copy when it comes out why would you need to buy the paper copy? What do you need two of the same book for? But its still cool that people are getting their children to read more. Right on to that!

That's pretty cheap for the books, considering mine was almost three times that. I'll never get to buy that one though because I already have the hardback, so there's no need for me to buy the paperback.
That's really good. There a tons of people who didn't realize how good reading is until they read Harry Potter. I don't see how i would help their grades that much, but that's awesome too.

I like the hard-back books myself, but yay for those who like the paper-nacks. Also, I know for fact that reading the HP series has helped people become more into read other books for fun and because they stated reading more, it has helped them in their school work. So, I think more people need to look at this fact and stop critizing the fact that is has witchcraft in it...

It's very true about getting people to read. Until the world of Harry Potter became known to me, the only thing I read was science or philosophy. I would never waiste my time on fiction. That's all changed now. Hogwarts has changed my life for the better. Ms. Rowling has truely made an impact on the world, and opened childrens and adults eyes to the exciting world of imagination. Blessings! Hecate3fold!

I am rather fond of hardback, but I would get paper back because it is very cheap. However, I do wonder why they release the paper back not at the same time as hardback.

I don't know about the "better in school" part, but it is certainly true about getting more kids to read for fun that previously did not. Most of my siblings as well as my mom are not "readers." I am so reading the series through was natural. But the HP books were interesting enough to hook even my brother who refuses to read anything! There's a lot of conspiracy in our religious community about HP but I think that just the fact that my brothers and sisters are reading is enough of a reason to lay off a bit (besides the fact that they series is absolutely amazing).

I agree with the parents. More and more children have started to read the books once they have gotten into the HP series. As a matter of fact, the same thing can be said for adults. I've been trying to improve my sisters reading comprehension by making her read a chapter and tell me what its about.

I totaly agree with helping people read. My little brother hated reading and would do anything to get out of it. Then he had to read harry potter for school and now he loves to read. I'm really happy that jkr wrote these books!
