Two million paperback versions of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are set to go on sale today
in North America. The book will cost $9.99 and is certain to be a best seller.
Previous releases of the paperback versions have reached the No. 1 spot and actually spent more time at that spot than the original hardcover versions.
On a side note, the The Kids and Family Reading Report, released by Yankelovich and Scholastic found that
:
...both kids and their parents credit the popular books with getting more kids to read for fun and with helping kids do better in school. Just over half (51%) of Harry Potter readers ages 5-17 years old say they did not read books for fun before they started reading Harry Potter, but now they do, and 65% say they have been doing better in school since they started reading the series. Parents see an even greater impact. The vast majority of parents (89%) say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child enjoy reading more, and 76% say that reading Harry Potter has helped their child do better in school.
Yankelovich
is a leader in consumer trends tracking and Scholastic
, is a children's publishing, education and media company which publishes the Harry Potter series in America.

I'm most likely going to be buying the paperback version. i have all the books in both hard and paperback. however, my harbacks are all in pieces cause i have reread them so many time. so maybe i'll be able to preserve my hardback of the sixth and just go to town with the paperback!

I have no desire to buy the paperback, at least now. But I must say I am one of the kids who got into reading with Harry Potter. Now I read whatever I can get my hands on.

wjoa, those are great numbers. The HP series really have made an impact on the reading industry. If you think about it, without the HP books, we would still be hating reading those darn boring books.

I know all of the schools where I live will be investing in those books. They only buy the paperbacks and they buy them in mass quantities for the libraries.
It will definitely reach the number one spot again, and it stays there because it costs less so more people can afford to purchase it.

Wow...that's amazing, I would have to agree, I mean it sorted help me too when I started reading the series. It helps so much in reading and understanding words and other stuff that's need to be known by people, and I'm glad that I started to read it because I wouldn't have if my best friend haven't suggested it to me in the first place, I thanks her for that :) And I think that kidsb who are having hard time in school or don't reallu like reading should start reading some of the series because it's so much fun, you can relate to the story in some ways and it's very enjoyable, also very believable :D

That's a great price, but I already have the hardcover and I don't really like the paperbacks anyway. It would make a GREAT gift for someone who hasn't read HBP yet, though!

Wow that is a really good price. I prefer the hard cover because the paperback doesnt have the illustrations on the inside cover.

If I have teh right exchange rate, that's like five pounds.
The exchange rate used to be for every 2 pounds you'd get 3 dollars but the dollar has lost value. I know this 'cause I am british but I moved to america five years ago.
If there is anyone here from Nottingham, UK reading this then you might know me...
Anyway, I am surprised it took this long for it to come out in paperback but it's good to know that a lot of parents think that their kids are 'learning' from the books themselves.

I am surprised it took this long to print the book on paper back. I personally like the hardback books, but this is a good way to allow people to collect the series at a lower price. Hopefully, now that they are finished printing the HBP, perhaps they will start the final book soon.

I hope they make the next HP book paperback. Perhaps that would make it cheaper. I'm also glad that most parents agree the series have a positive impact on their children.
