Warner Bros. has confirmed to HPANA that it plans to pull all of the first four Harry Potter DVDs off store shelves by early 2007, with no announced plans for their return.
Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban will become unavailable after December 29, 2006. Goblet of Fire will follow suit on February 9, 2007.
First reported by Home Media Retailing Magazine
, the move may indicate WB's interest in stoking sales this non-Potter holiday season, or preparing for newer editions of the films on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray technology.
Called a "moratorium," the practice is commonplace in the home video industry. The most notable instigator is Disney, which often locks away movies in their "vault" to stimulate sales and publicity.
Thanks to Matthew for the tip.

WHAT?! This seems really silly to me...but I guess if Disney can do it, than Warner Bros wants to do it too. I'd just better make sure I buy myself some "back-up" copies to have if I'm not going to be able to buy them anymore!!

Well, I don't see how that would affect a lot of people. And if you're really worried you might loose or need a new copy of one of the discs, you might as well get it now.
I really hope they realease the new ones on dvd too, because then i would have to get a new player for the other movies, and i'd rather not.
I don't really mind about the movies, cause it really doesn't affect me.

The sad thing is this ploy for publicity/sales is already working. So many people are saying they want to buy the movies now, regardless if they have them already. I just wish there was a way to not let Warner Brothers exploit the fans like this. But I understand why everyone wants to get the movies and Warner Brothers knew everyone would react this way that's why they did it. If this wasn't a family site, I would have some choice words for Warner Brothers's little stunt.

What the beep!!! WHY are they taking them off!!!!!
It's sooooo stupid, they take the dvd and videos off shelf to hike in sales, but whats the point!!! I mean, if their taking them off so they can realease them in a different style and so they all look the same, then thats ok, but otherwise I see absolutely no point in taking them away!!!!!!!!!!:D:D

Maybe it´s a way to sell the dvds they´ve got back in the shops? Making the fans panicking and force them to hurry into the stores, it´s a marketing trick I suppose.

Huh? Why are they going to do this? They dont pull other movies away from shops so you cant buy them so why would they do it to the Harry Potter movies seeing as there so popular. They shouldnt do this in my opinion because i know my friend needs new hp dvds as they broke and she wont want to be rushing to get them
