Yesterday we learned that Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths
(Vernon Dursley) are scheduled to appear
in a production of Equus
on London’s West End next spring. Rehearsals will start in January and the play will be directed by Thea Sharrock.
Dan had this to say on his new role:
I'm really excited to be part of this production. I'm thrilled to be working with Richard Griffiths again. This is obviously a huge departure for me as an actor, but Equus is such an amazing play that this really was an opportunity not to be missed.
Rehearsal starts in January and I'm very much looking forward to working with Thea Sharrock who is an incredibly talented Director and only hope I do the role justice!
Dan will play the lead character, Alan Strang, while Mr. Griffiths, fresh from his award winning role in The History Boys on Broadway will portray psychiatrist, Martin Dysart.
Previous actors to portray these characters on the stage included Peter Firth and Tom Hulce as Alan and Anthony Hopkins, Anthony Perkins and Richard Burton as psychiatrist Martin Dysart. The play received a Tony Award in 1975 for best play.
Additionally
, the play will be in rehearsals for six weeks in London starting in January and will probably open in March.
No ticket information is currently available but as soon as we know any information we will be sure to let all you know.

Glory Be!!! Will he be 18 by then? Oh, what I would give to see Dan in his birthday suit... OH.. I mean, to see him perform on stage... yes, yes, THAT'S what I meant! Really though, this will be great as a learning experience. I've always loved Dan, but he does need to work on his "angst" face. I think his life's been good, and he doesn't have too many negative experiences to draw on. Go Dan!!

Well he's 16 now, I dont know when his birthday is. So I think he might turn 17 during the play, but still. I dont know the legal age in England, in the US its 18. Its a bit weird for a 16 year old in my eyes to be doing a nude scene, among the other things that are in that play.

Well i wish him luck even though Equss is a very disterbing play to be in. I hope that many of the young fans dont go and see it just because it is so graphic in nature. But I am sure he will do great in the part. He has become a wonderful actor!

That would be exciting. Why can't they appear on the United State's west end. Then maybe I would get a chance to see her.

This is a tremendous move on Dan's part. He's making sure that there's life after Harry Potter for sure. This is a powerful play and I think he'll do well in it. He's going to have to really show the world that he can act. I am going to get tickets and see it. Good way to spend a vacation.

It's nice that Dan still knows what he wants to do even if they're little productions rather than big Hollywood Blockbusters.

What an experience this will be for Dan. It's something so different from Harry Potter and it'd be good for him I think. I think actors should try different types of acting to see what other avenues they could pursue should the need arise.

It funny how many projects Potter stars actually work on together. Almost like there keeping the family together even off the set.

It would be so great to see Dan perform live. It's really brave of him to even attempt it. I'd be afraid that HP fans would be rushing the stage

But I thought Kenneth Brannagh was in this production too? Oh well, as long as HPANA will have a copy for the rest of us to see online, I am fine.
