Yesterday we learned that Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths
(Vernon Dursley) are scheduled to appear
in a production of Equus
on London’s West End next spring. Rehearsals will start in January and the play will be directed by Thea Sharrock.
Dan had this to say on his new role:
I'm really excited to be part of this production. I'm thrilled to be working with Richard Griffiths again. This is obviously a huge departure for me as an actor, but Equus is such an amazing play that this really was an opportunity not to be missed.
Rehearsal starts in January and I'm very much looking forward to working with Thea Sharrock who is an incredibly talented Director and only hope I do the role justice!
Dan will play the lead character, Alan Strang, while Mr. Griffiths, fresh from his award winning role in The History Boys on Broadway will portray psychiatrist, Martin Dysart.
Previous actors to portray these characters on the stage included Peter Firth and Tom Hulce as Alan and Anthony Hopkins, Anthony Perkins and Richard Burton as psychiatrist Martin Dysart. The play received a Tony Award in 1975 for best play.
Additionally
, the play will be in rehearsals for six weeks in London starting in January and will probably open in March.
No ticket information is currently available but as soon as we know any information we will be sure to let all you know.

Wow! That sounds so awesome! I'm glad that Dan is trying different roles besides Harry Potter. Too bad I can't watch it, hopefully there will be some good reviews when it comes out.

Good for him! I wish I lived in England so I could see it... I might be visiting next summer though... That would be soooo cool to see Dan on stage! (I always tend to prefer the stage to movies, the acting is usually more real)

I just wish they'd keep filming, not pausing so other sillyness can happen! Really, they are growing too fast to put it off and all that.
Still good for him.

Um, I actually heard something about a nude scene... *Rolls eyes* well, at least HPANA kept it sweet and simple by not mentioning it, although I wish I could have that rumor confirmed or denied. Too bad I can't see the play either, but that's what I get for living in America on the West coast. Oh well. I'm glad for Dan. Hope he enjoys it. Have an awesome day everyone :)

I hope Dan excels in this new role. I know he started in theatre, but it will probably still be thrilling to be in front of a live audience. I wish him the best!

At least he's doing work besides Harry Potter. Don't want him to be typecasted. Hopefully he'll have a career after Harry Potter.

Whoa. Dan must be getting really desperate not to be typecast as Harry Potter for the rest of his life. I think this is a wrong career move but I might be proved wrong. We'll see.

I would imagine that live theatre would be a great deal more challenging than making a movie. Gotta get it right the first time. Good luck Daniel and congratulations on landing the role.

I'd like to see that - its going to be around my 16th birthday, and I'm wondering if I'd be able to go up to London and see somethign to celebrate. Not sure how much my parents would like 'Dan naked on a horse' though...

You know, the thing with the horse... just doesn't sit with me. He's still only 17 and he won't be 18 until after this is finished. I would've thought there's some kind of law that would prevent him from participating.

That's cool that he is branching out into new avenues of acting. I think every young actor should have a stage experience. I wonder is that Moreover article is true. Will Dan have nude scenes?

Wow, I just herd this on the radio. I didnt believe it, I mean I wish him the best and everything. But this play seems to be a really big change for him, some of you should look it up and see what it says about the play. I wouldnt of believed it, until I saw this. If it gets to controversial, I hope it doesnt ruin his career.
