Yesterday we learned that Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths
(Vernon Dursley) are scheduled to appear
in a production of Equus
on London’s West End next spring. Rehearsals will start in January and the play will be directed by Thea Sharrock.
Dan had this to say on his new role:
I'm really excited to be part of this production. I'm thrilled to be working with Richard Griffiths again. This is obviously a huge departure for me as an actor, but Equus is such an amazing play that this really was an opportunity not to be missed.
Rehearsal starts in January and I'm very much looking forward to working with Thea Sharrock who is an incredibly talented Director and only hope I do the role justice!
Dan will play the lead character, Alan Strang, while Mr. Griffiths, fresh from his award winning role in The History Boys on Broadway will portray psychiatrist, Martin Dysart.
Previous actors to portray these characters on the stage included Peter Firth and Tom Hulce as Alan and Anthony Hopkins, Anthony Perkins and Richard Burton as psychiatrist Martin Dysart. The play received a Tony Award in 1975 for best play.
Additionally
, the play will be in rehearsals for six weeks in London starting in January and will probably open in March.
No ticket information is currently available but as soon as we know any information we will be sure to let all you know.

Wow, I just herd this on the radio. I didnt believe it, I mean I wish him the best and everything. But this play seems to be a really big change for him, some of you should look it up and see what it says about the play. I wouldnt of believed it, until I saw this. If it gets to controversial, I hope it doesnt ruin his career.

Do you all know that Dan will be doing a nude scene in this play? Oh my God, for some of you that might be worth the cost of air fare to England!

Good for them... gives them (another) break from Potter!!! I guess Dan is doing good branching out now before it is too late... if all he did was HP...by the time the 7th movie came out he would only be remembered for that and nothing else.

Congrats to Dan for his lead role... however, he should try to get the director to give him glasses, or... just kidding!

This is awesome. Dan certainly has made himself more marketable as an actor. He will not be stuck in the type cast role of HP.
I love live theatre. I so wish I could go to London and see this play.
I am sure it will be wonderful and they will be nominated for many awards for their performances. At least, I hope.

I'm very happy for Dan, this is a great role, a brilliant play. Obvioulsy if acclaimed Thea Sharrock chose him it's because she thinks he is very talented.
I'm glad he is choosing serious roles and not just immature movies which would only give him money or fame.
This is much better. Wow, next HP films will be great with all the experience Dan is acquiring!

I'm glad that the younger actors of Harry Potter are getting chances to branch out. But I think they will always be the character they played in HP to all of us. I can't help referring to Dan as Harry.

What a switch from being Harry. This certainly will challange Dan as an actor, however the play itself is not one that I would want to go see. Maybe his manager thinks this will be good for his career, but I'm sure there are other avenues of persuit that would further his career and not be of such questionable taste. I wish him luck. Blessings! Hecate3fold!

Congratulation to Mr Radcliffe and to Mr Griffiths also. It seems to be shaping up to be a wonderful cast. How great to see them working again together and broadening Mr. Radcilffs career and continuing what has been a wonderful career for Mr Griffith. So sorry that I don't live in UK to be able to see it, I bet it's a hot ticket for sure.
