Earlier this morning, Harry Potter author JK Rowling attended
a press conference ahead of her charity reading with Stephen King and John Irving. At the press conference Ms. Rowling commented that she will have to go through a bereavement process when finished writing the last book in the series.
On the one hand, I am going to feel sad. Harry's been an enormous part of my life and it's been a turbulent phase of my life and he was always the constant.
So there will be a sense of bereavement.
But there will also be a sense of liberation because there are pressures involved in writing something as popular.
Wonderful though it's been, I think that there will also be a certain freedom in escaping that particular part of writing Harry Potter.
When asked about the two deaths that she previously mentioned, Ms. Rowling said:
I guess some people will loathe it, some people will love it.
You can now see pictures here
from the event.
Meanwhile, John Irving and Stephen King urged
Ms. Rowling not to kill of Harry off in the last installment, but Rowling made no promises.
UPDATE: Veritaserum has posted the full audio of the press conference.
UPDATE II: Video of the press conference can be seen here

Yay for John Irving and Stephen King for helping her see that killing Harry is NOT the way! Don't do it! It won't make you feel better! And if other people are going to write about him, they are going to do it whether he's dead or not.

I agree with John Irving and Stephen King she shouldn't kill Harry. I guess it will be a bit of an adjustment to not be writing about Harry Potter after she's been doing it so long.

I guess I'll listen to the audio later when I get on a faster internet connection, but the headlines were EVERYWHERE online yesterday about the other authors telling her not to kill Harry. It's all her decision in the end. I personaly wrote her a letter (that I never sent, it was an persuasive english project in elementary school) asking that she please not kill Harry and a bunch of reasons as to why (i got a 100 so it was a good letter) Still I noticed, once I became a writer that it was up to said writer to decide the life of her characters and no one could or should try to change that.

That is kinda cool that two authors that were famous before her asked her not to kill Harry off. I think everyone is hoping that she won't kill Harry off.

Well, I'm greatful to Irving and King for asking her not to do Harry in, but you never know. It could be a part of Jo's genius that she doesn't go along with waht others want, but with what fits the world of Harry Potter. No matter how it ends, the Potter series is more memorable than any set of books I've ever read, and I've loved every second of the suspense. I hope to god that she doesn't kill Harry, but if she does, he'll not go forgotten, that's for sure.

maybe this bookseries about Harry potter is at an end. But I do hope that JKR will make a new book in the same universe. If we compare JKR´s fantasy-univers with Tolkiens fantasy-universe; If the Harry Potter books are more or less "the Lord of The Rings", then i hope that JKR will write her "own" books like "The Hobbit" and especially "The Silmarrilion". So i hope JKR will make books about when Snape, James, Lily, and Sirius was kids, and went to Hogwarts - But 7 books is not necesary, 2 books will do fine. The i also hope JKR will make a book like Tolkiens "Silmarillion", where she tells the backstory of the whole univers: how the magic nation was founded, how Hogwarts was founded, Who Merlin and the 4 heads of the hogwarts-houses was.

I thought this was really interesting, and I agree with them in saying not to kill off Harry he he but we will have to wait and see what happens. I noticed that JKR is wearing a serpent on her neclace that kinda resembles slytherin's emblem, is it a clue?

God, I'm tired about hearing the two deaths; when I hear it my head goes wild... and we know that there are more than two deaths. I hope it's not the old Romeo and Juliet thing... where two lovers die for a cause. If it is, I will be definitely pissed. I'm definitely feeling her bittersweet emotions about Harry. It's great when the new books are released and to connect to a great characters, but the anxiety of what's going to happen next and the anticipation for the book is stressful.

A bereavement period. Yeah, I can understand that. Perhaps she could go see the same bereavement counsellor that Dan saw to understand survivor's guilt. However, she won't be proper free of Harry for a while, cos even after the last book, there'll still be two more films! Poor JK, a bit overwhelmed perhaps?

I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but... Is it just me, or is JKR starting to look kinda old?? Just something I noticed. It is going to be really sad when the series ends, but I'm still looking forward to it. And it doesn't matter how much she is urged not to kill off certain characters, she'll do as she pleases. I know that if it were me, I would kill them off just to anger people...
