Earlier this morning, Harry Potter author JK Rowling attended
a press conference ahead of her charity reading with Stephen King and John Irving. At the press conference Ms. Rowling commented that she will have to go through a bereavement process when finished writing the last book in the series.
On the one hand, I am going to feel sad. Harry's been an enormous part of my life and it's been a turbulent phase of my life and he was always the constant.
So there will be a sense of bereavement.
But there will also be a sense of liberation because there are pressures involved in writing something as popular.
Wonderful though it's been, I think that there will also be a certain freedom in escaping that particular part of writing Harry Potter.
When asked about the two deaths that she previously mentioned, Ms. Rowling said:
I guess some people will loathe it, some people will love it.
You can now see pictures here
from the event.
Meanwhile, John Irving and Stephen King urged
Ms. Rowling not to kill of Harry off in the last installment, but Rowling made no promises.
UPDATE: Veritaserum has posted the full audio of the press conference.
UPDATE II: Video of the press conference can be seen here

Well...Jo, maybe you can try writing more little books about harry's world before leaving him at all...maybe it better for you to have an abrupt end for the serie...it depends on the person.

NO!!!!!!!!! That means Snape, I'd bet! I bet Snape dies. That's why some people will loathe it, some will love it. That's how people are about Snape! And I happen to be one who will be sad about it! Hmm... I wonder what we'll be able to "divine" from her statements! Hopefully something good.

Why does anyone have to die except voldemort and the death eaters!! Oh well, i am starting to think one of the deaths could be snape, i think it will all be revealed how he has been on the good side all along and then he will die, which would be sad and who would love that? So maybe he wont be revealed to be a good guy... but then who would loathe it. Hmm, oh i have no clue whatsoever as to who is going to die.
But as for the end of the series, well of course JK will have mixed feelings about it it has been a big part of her life so she is bound to miss it but at the same time i suppose it would be a kind of relief. But i just know i will be sooooo sad when it is over... thats another reason she shouldnt kill any of the good guys, it will be sad enough already!
Oh just bring the book out as soon as possible and put us out of our misery!!

Well, there is the matter of the reprieve given to someone, so letting Snape live could also tug someone in two directions. You'll have the people who will still want him dead even if he is good-ish in the end, and the people like me who love the character and no matter what happens would enjoy him surviving, if and only if he gets a funny epilogue mention (ROWLING, if you're reading, please give him a new job of writing Potions textbooks because Libatius Borage isn't good enough!).
And I agree on the Draco thing - Killing him off would create a stir as well. And killing off a Weasley would too. I think Draco will die, Snape has her reprieve, and perhaps Ron or Hagrid will get axed as well, but not both, along with random other deaths. I doubt she'll kill Harry - but I can see how that would create problems. No matter what I think I will always love HBP the most - unless the final book is just saturated with Snape, then I might enjoy that a bit more!

Loathe it, love it. I bet I love it, she can do no wrong with those books in my eyes... except for Goblet of Fire. I didn't like that one as much as the others.
