Earlier this morning, Harry Potter author JK Rowling attended
a press conference ahead of her charity reading with Stephen King and John Irving. At the press conference Ms. Rowling commented that she will have to go through a bereavement process when finished writing the last book in the series.
On the one hand, I am going to feel sad. Harry's been an enormous part of my life and it's been a turbulent phase of my life and he was always the constant.
So there will be a sense of bereavement.
But there will also be a sense of liberation because there are pressures involved in writing something as popular.
Wonderful though it's been, I think that there will also be a certain freedom in escaping that particular part of writing Harry Potter.
When asked about the two deaths that she previously mentioned, Ms. Rowling said:
I guess some people will loathe it, some people will love it.
You can now see pictures here
from the event.
Meanwhile, John Irving and Stephen King urged
Ms. Rowling not to kill of Harry off in the last installment, but Rowling made no promises.
UPDATE: Veritaserum has posted the full audio of the press conference.
UPDATE II: Video of the press conference can be seen here

Sounds very interesting...
I wonder what she means when she says some people will love it and some people will loathe it... Hmmmm i wonder if she is referring to how some fans will react to the deaths in the book...

I don't know why Stephen King is telling Jo how to write her book... serriously... as much as I don't want Harry to die in the last book... if that is how Jo wants to end her book then let her... no one owns the Harry Potter serries except for Jo... so I think that it truely is up to her... <3333

Well, i don't know. But I really don't want it to be anyone from the Weasley clan... i love them to death and it would be devastating!
Well, I guess that she will be sad. Harry Potter's been a really big part of her life and to finish writting about him and everything must be sad. Just like ti will be for us to finish reading the last book because we know that there won't be any more to read. It feels like it's the end. But in another part hse must be very happy to be realieved of the pressure to keep writting. Though people will still ask her to write more, she won't feel like she had to do it. She might write more because after all it's a passion of hers. I hope she writes something completely different. that we can all get caught up in as well.
This is a freakishly long post!

I think we will all bereave along with JK...I will definatley be sorry to see no more Harry Potter :'(
"Some will loath it, some will love it"..? Perhaps a good guy and a bad guy dies....And thanks to John Irving and Stephen King for asking Potter not to die, as most of us will also be begging the same thing!
But "no promises2...? Oh i hope that doesn't mean that he will die!!!

Here's the deal: I'm going to be shocked at first, go through the stages of grieving, then eventually come to love her for it like I did with the last one. I literally was sick after reading HBP the first time. Like, I was numb for almost a month. Then reality kicked in and the thought that "It's only a book" came back to me and I mellowed out. I'm sure something similar will happen after the last one.

Well i mean just by reading JKRs biograohy you can only just begin grasp the magnitude of Harry's influence on JKRs life. It must be like losing half her soul.
But on the other hand, she must be right about saying it is liberationg. i guess it must restrict you as a writer, as you have to deal with the huge amounts of pressure from millions of fans around the world.
But I'm sure she wouldn't hesitate to do it all again!

I understand exactly what she is talking about. (With it being a sad accasion BUT also a feeling of freedom. For so long JK Rowlings life has been Harry Potter. (Which they have become quite ALOT like her children.) Each charector and each adventure they had grew with time and from within themselves. BUUT I am sure that Mrs. Rowling will suprise us not only in the last Harry Potter book, BUT also with her future writings as well.

I really hope she doesnt kill off Harry, I mean everyone would love a fairy tale ending. But she would have to kill both of them off to end the series. Since Harry is the only one who can ever defeat LV (stated in the prophecy) if she kills Harry LV will live on, and there could be future books. If she kills off LV then she could write more tales of Harry's after life. I think she has to kill both.... unfortunately.

I like how all these famous authors are trying to get JK Rowling not to get off Harry. Its funny because it just goes to show how many people love the books. Anyways whoever she kills off I know that whether i like it or not, I'll still be hooked.

I was hoping for a little more, but I guess she's gotten VERY good at being vague! I just wish she would release the name so all of us Harry Potter fans can sit and ponder the book... oh well, maybe eventually. I guess some people will loathe it, some people will love it. I'm thinking maybe Draco or Snape, because everyone is so mixed up on what they feel towards those 2 characters... COME ON BOOK 7!!!!!!! It needs to hurry up and come out already! Have an awesome day everyone :)

I am so not liking her use of the word bereavement. Definitely not a good omen for the boy wizard. While I do understand that the pressure on her by, us, her fans has been tremendous and I am sure she will be relieved to get away from that. At the same time bereavement is usually reserved for mounring the dead.
I can't beleive that she will kill Harry off, but that word scares me.
