Author JK Rowling explicitly clarified tonight on her final appearance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City that Dumbledore is "definitely" dead.
ยป UPDATE: Transcripts of both evenings are now available.
She, along with Stephen King and John Irving, hosted another 6,000 people as they read from their books to raise money for charity. Rowling surprised fans with several tantalizing tidbits about the finale of her popular Harry Potter series.
While the authors all read from the same passages of their books as last night, their introductions were handled by different surprise celebrities. Actor-director Tim Robbins (who starred in The Shawshank Redemption) introduced King and Stanley Tucci welcomed Irving.
Rowling was brought on stage (again to standing ovation) by Kathy Bates, who proclaimed that the author took kids to places "Google does not go," describing the effect Rowling's books have had in shaping an entire generation of digital-age kids. At first fearful of the prospect of seeing the Potter books be made into the very digital creations they were meant to draw children away from (at the same time ruining imagination with special effects), Bates said fans "faithfully returned to the books" after seeing their incarnations light up the silver screen, and that Rowling had created "readers for life."
One audience member greeted Jo by yelling "Don't kill Harry," to which Jo responded: "Oh, no pressure then."
Tonight's audience was treated with much more informative and revealing answers than yesterday. Here are a few highlights (again, paraphrased):
Rowling later revealed that while she thought she had settled on a title for book 7, a new one occurred to her in the shower this afternoon. She declined to elaborate.
She also suggested there were to be plot twists in book 7 that she didn't think anyone has already or could possibly guess about.
Stephen King, reponding to a question about what he is afraid of, said: "When I picked up the Harry Potter books, I was surprised at the depth of the deatheaters." To which Rowling replied tauntingly: "I scared Stephen King."

I am so glad we have some answers! But all the answers arent exactly nice... i wish DD wasnt dead, but i suppose that confirms he is. Oh well, now i can get back to wishing Sirius isnt dead!
I really really hope Harry doesnt die, but what does that whole "oh, no pressure then" thing mean... these answers give me no answers!!

Enchanting Fairy says:
Wow i just read the mugglenet one and there is more answers!!
These are the bits i found most interesting, (READ THIS):
- Author Salman Rushdie came up with his son to ask, after a detailed theory, if Snape is good or bad. Jo replied that "your opinion was correct." Rushdie's opinion, unfortunately, was hard to follow.
Well this means she has told someone something straight about snape, but we dont know what it is!! How annoying!
- While Jo is listing the characters who she'd invite to dinner, she names the trio but then pauses. The crowd begins to shout out other characters, but Jo responds, "I'm the only one who knows who lives through the series," accidentally implying that she could only list characters who make it through the final book. Her final two choices (after realizing what she said) were Dumbledore and Hagrid.
She says the trio before she says she's the only one who knows who lives through the series, which would mean that the trio lives! YAY!!! But if you link this with what it says on HPANA (King interjects: "they could be dead") then this could mean Hagrid dies!! Oh no.

It's a bitter-sweet thing...
At last people will stop trying to bring DD back...But we know he's gone now...*sigh*
Most of us were expecting this though..Jo did say that she wouldn't bring any characters back to life...

I am so happy she has stated that Dumbledore is definately dead. It makes me sad but I am happy to know for sure. I wonder what she meant but Dumbledore pulling a Gandolf. I thought obviously incorrectly that Dumbledore had killed Gandolf when it was said he defeated him. I wonder if the pause before saying Hagrid means he is going to die also.

I think she is reffering to Gandalf out of Lord of the rings, where he appears dead but we later find out he actually wasnt dead. She is just saying this isnt going to be the case with DD.

I thought initally that I was glad that this guessing was over and done with but I am almost sad to see it stamped as a certain death. Although I always knew it was going to be I still clung to hope and made up wonderful scinarios in my mind. I guess I still can.

Hi,
I wonder why people simply could not accept what happened in book 5 (killing of Sirius) and book 6 (killing of Dumbledore).
When poor, poor Cedric was murdered in book 4 nobody doubt it it really happened to him.
Sure Dumbledore is dead, sure Sirius is dead!
JKR never plays with the matter of death! She takes death too serious!

Awesome! I love hearing news about the upcoming books, even though I still do not want to believe that Dumbledore is dead. I hope there is a difference between dead and gone forever. A new title from a shower? Interesting...

Does this mean Hagrid is going to die, well now people can not come up with excuses to say Dumbledore is alive like "he can be a ghost". Well I am sad to know that he is dead and that kind of hinted that Hagrid is going to die.

So... DD's dead. Does that prove that Snape is evil? Because that would really suck.
The trio obviously survives, because of her blunder. Altough maybe (just maybe) Harry bites it because she said she wants to apologize to him.
So much info, so much to digest... And still so many questions to deal with...

IF, Dumbledore is really dead, that means that she is going to make it harder for Harry and his friends. It is going to be a total mess in the 7th Book.

First, I want to say that this night was completely amazing! Thank-you, JO! And of course, Stephen King and John Irvnig. I was actually surprised that Jo answered as much as she did. Yes, Dumbledore being dead will make it harder for Harry, but in the end the hero has to stand alone.

What more can one say. This is definitely clear on Dumbledore. It will be interesting to see how close she is to the end. That she has a title or titles is a good indication that she must be close.
