Author JK Rowling explicitly clarified tonight on her final appearance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City that Dumbledore is "definitely" dead.
ยป UPDATE: Transcripts of both evenings are now available.
She, along with Stephen King and John Irving, hosted another 6,000 people as they read from their books to raise money for charity. Rowling surprised fans with several tantalizing tidbits about the finale of her popular Harry Potter series.
While the authors all read from the same passages of their books as last night, their introductions were handled by different surprise celebrities. Actor-director Tim Robbins (who starred in The Shawshank Redemption) introduced King and Stanley Tucci welcomed Irving.
Rowling was brought on stage (again to standing ovation) by Kathy Bates, who proclaimed that the author took kids to places "Google does not go," describing the effect Rowling's books have had in shaping an entire generation of digital-age kids. At first fearful of the prospect of seeing the Potter books be made into the very digital creations they were meant to draw children away from (at the same time ruining imagination with special effects), Bates said fans "faithfully returned to the books" after seeing their incarnations light up the silver screen, and that Rowling had created "readers for life."
One audience member greeted Jo by yelling "Don't kill Harry," to which Jo responded: "Oh, no pressure then."
Tonight's audience was treated with much more informative and revealing answers than yesterday. Here are a few highlights (again, paraphrased):
Rowling later revealed that while she thought she had settled on a title for book 7, a new one occurred to her in the shower this afternoon. She declined to elaborate.
She also suggested there were to be plot twists in book 7 that she didn't think anyone has already or could possibly guess about.
Stephen King, reponding to a question about what he is afraid of, said: "When I picked up the Harry Potter books, I was surprised at the depth of the deatheaters." To which Rowling replied tauntingly: "I scared Stephen King."

Shoulden't she know the name to HP 7 by now??
It's also good to know she thinks about HP in the shower!! Maybe that will help her get out the book sooner!!

I am so relieved she finally came out and said it. If I came upon one more who insisted Dumbledore was alive... well, it wouldn't be pretty. Honestly, it was getting annoying, of course I say that with love.

SO, Dumbledore is really dead. Too bad. I wonder what the title will be. I guess we have to chill for a while since she's on vacation for a few weeks.

I was there when she said it -- I had been SO convinced that he wasn't dead, and I was so suprised when she said he was. I do think, however, that did leave open that he could communicate in some way, so I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that he left messages in the pensieve, will communicate through the portrait, or has otherwise found a way to communicate without coming back as a ghost. After all, as he says in book 1, "The the organized mind, death is but the next great adventure!"

That is funny, she even thinks in the shower
There are possibilities Dumbledore is not dead but if JKR says he is then what can we do. Cry? okay!

Sadly, I had resigned to the fact that Dumbledore had passed on, so I am not surprised. Kudos to Jo for being able to scare Stephen King... I don't think a lot of people can say that truthfully!!!

I am so surprised by how many people are surprised that JKR confirmed that Dumbledore is dead. I had no hope at all that he wasn't really dead, so I would have been shocked if she hinted otherwise. Harry has to do it on his own from now on (well, with Hermione and Ron, that is!), as has been pointed out.
Great reporting, by the way! Wish, wish, wish I were there!

Rowling had created "readers for life."She has created many readers for life, Rowling single-handidly brought up a generation to love reading and those adults are now marrying and having babies of their own that will be broought up on Harry Potter.
Question about Aunt Petunia's potential to love Harry): I will say this... There's a little more to Aunt Petunia than meets the eye. I have been saying this all along! Petunia is somehow invloved in the wizarding world. I have a theory about her and Snape (see the thread on Snapes love.) But now as I sat here typing I wonder if she couldn't somehow be involved with Voldermort, maybe she loved him. Hmmmmmmmmm.........not sure, but I will think more about that.
I am greatly saddened by her definitive "Dumbledore is dead". I have never really believed he wasn't dead but the hope was a flicker in my heart. ::Sigh::

I knew that Dumbledore was definately dead, as is Sirius... Sad though it is, I believe that both deaths needed to happen in order for Harry to success in the task that has been set for him since his birth.

That is sad. I was one of many who hoped, but I really kinda assumed it would be too easy. Maybe somehow he needed to die. I'll bet that thingy on his hand was incurable. It certainly looked like it and all that.
Wow, this is just kind sad.
