Author JK Rowling explicitly clarified tonight on her final appearance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City that Dumbledore is "definitely" dead.
ยป UPDATE: Transcripts of both evenings are now available.
She, along with Stephen King and John Irving, hosted another 6,000 people as they read from their books to raise money for charity. Rowling surprised fans with several tantalizing tidbits about the finale of her popular Harry Potter series.
While the authors all read from the same passages of their books as last night, their introductions were handled by different surprise celebrities. Actor-director Tim Robbins (who starred in The Shawshank Redemption) introduced King and Stanley Tucci welcomed Irving.
Rowling was brought on stage (again to standing ovation) by Kathy Bates, who proclaimed that the author took kids to places "Google does not go," describing the effect Rowling's books have had in shaping an entire generation of digital-age kids. At first fearful of the prospect of seeing the Potter books be made into the very digital creations they were meant to draw children away from (at the same time ruining imagination with special effects), Bates said fans "faithfully returned to the books" after seeing their incarnations light up the silver screen, and that Rowling had created "readers for life."
One audience member greeted Jo by yelling "Don't kill Harry," to which Jo responded: "Oh, no pressure then."
Tonight's audience was treated with much more informative and revealing answers than yesterday. Here are a few highlights (again, paraphrased):
Rowling later revealed that while she thought she had settled on a title for book 7, a new one occurred to her in the shower this afternoon. She declined to elaborate.
She also suggested there were to be plot twists in book 7 that she didn't think anyone has already or could possibly guess about.
Stephen King, reponding to a question about what he is afraid of, said: "When I picked up the Harry Potter books, I was surprised at the depth of the deatheaters." To which Rowling replied tauntingly: "I scared Stephen King."

She's pretty cool. I wish my mum was as cool as she is. I mean, how many 41-year-old women say stuff like 'no pressure' and tease people on a regular basis?

How sad indeed, Dumbledore is really dead, I have to say that I did hopd out hope that he may not be. This changes some of the things that I hoped for in book 7 a great deal. Now I hope for Snape to not be redeemed but die a humiliating , painful drawn out death! Still good information to know.

It's actually good that Dumbledore's dead. Woah don't kill you DD fans, but I think its good to show that he's dead, because the story will become more intriguing, Snape will be someone we'd focus on in the 7th book, and Harry will have to fight on his own, which either proves if he really is a hero, or if he's just gifted with luck.
After knowing all this, I really cannot wait anymore for 7th book!!

I'm so glad that JKR has said Dumbledore is dead. Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry his character died. But, I really don't like it when authors (Tolkien did it well, since you didn't see Gandalf die) and TV shows (Buffy) bring people back to life--it always seems so wishy-washy. With Gandalf, the spell freezing Harry ended, we "saw" the body, Fawkes grieved, and we saw the new portrait in the head master's office. I would be very disappointed in JKR if she had tried to bring him back.
That said, I wouldn't mind a flashback/pensieve memory...

Great to hear all those answers from JK. Too bad al the hard work Dumbledoreisnotdead.com did to find evidence of his survival comes to nothing. Oh well, I'm sure all of us have had theories shot down by Rowling's master plan. Can't wait for book 7!

Er... I never thought Dumbledore was still alive (the same cannot be said for dear old Sirius Black. Padfoot Lives!!). That Avada Kedavra! had me pretty much convinced. Loved the Gandalf reference, though.
That sounds like me, constantly coming up with knew titles and such (not that I've ever written a real story, but whatever).
This whole article just makes me want to read Book 7. ...Now!!

I guess she's right in killing Dumbledore, in a way. Harry cannot bank on Dumbledore's strength all his life, can he? He's got to fight Voldemort independently. I will miss Dumbledore though. He was a quiet, dependable figure.

Wow...JK scared Stephen King.
Well, I think an insight into JK's thoughts were shown there...she obvioudly adores Hagrid, so that might mean sacrificing him for Harry's sake.
Interesting.

Thought 1- Yes J.K. says that dumbledore is dead but he will also play a role in book 7 so this is what I think ok, Albus dumbledore is dead but maybe his brother I ant think of his name right now maybe he is the dumbledore that is going to help him he hasnt been mentioned much in the books so far but maybe the last book is where he comes out and this is his time to help Harry.
Thought 2- Or this could happen Albus Dumbledore and his brother could have taken some polyjuice potion and basically switched places and it was actually albus' brother who was with harry the whole time he tookk harry to the cave he drank from the cauldron and last but not least he is the one who died because he knew it was better for the wizarding world so those are my thoughts.
