Harry Potter actors Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson both received their recent exam results last week and have both aced
them. Emma received eight A*s and two As in the GCSEs, while Dan received three A’s for his AS-levels.
Dan will be taking a year off from school due to his film and stage commitments and was said
by his publicist to “be over the moon” with his results.

Just like their characters actually. Rather neat that. It's odd, seeing these kinds of things, but still intersting.
Thanks HPANA.
Neat.

I continue to be so impressed with these two...it is incredible the amount of international fame they have, yet they manage to keep their focus on securing themselves the best possible futures. I applaud them (and their parents!)!

Although I haven't the slightest as to what exactly these weird British acronyms stand for, it's nice to see our lovely Potter stars have "aced" the exams! The world needs smarter celebrities, says I. They make good role models.

Good for them... One thing less to keep them from the movie!!! :) It is hard to believe they are so young still... They are all so mature for their age I can't picture them in school anymore.

"Hermione Granger*-Snape says:
For all you non-UK residents, these are excellent results. To answer all the questions about the system Hogwarts's school system is exactly parallel to the UK exams, so GCSEs are the equivalent of OWLS, taken at the end of your 5th year, when you're 15 or 16. Most people take 8-11 subjects, and it's compulsory to take some core subjects (English, maths, 3 sciences), just like everyone takes Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, Herbology etc for OWLs, and you can choose from a range of others (eg History, languages, Music, Geography), just like Harry chose Core of Magical Creatures and Divination, whilst others took Arithmancy and Runes instead. A* is the top grade you can get; the national average is a C, and you generally need 5 A*-C grades to carry on at school. GCSEs are the end of compusory education, you can leave afterwards, just as Fred and George did(!), or carry on to do A levels.
A-levels are almost the same as NEWTS as they're taken over 2 years too, except you take some exams after the first year which make a qualification in themselves - an AS level, which is what Dan has just done. Most people take 4 AS-levels, then drop a subject and carry on to make 3 full A-levels, but I guess Dan didn't bother with a 4th AS, but will carry on all 3 subjects. A is the highest grade for AS and A-levels, so he's done really well. These exams really go in depth, so they are harder than most US exams, as far as I understand, but fewer subjects are taken. I hope this helps people!"

~Hermione says:
I'm very happy for both of them. I was thinking of Emma, when she was saying that she is very different from Hermione and now that she gets the best results I guess people are going to think she is almost the same. But I believe she isn't. She certainly has a different character.

That's absolutely brilliant for the both of them. I can't conceive how they did so welll considering how much time they have to devote to filming and everything that comes with being the most famous teenagers on the planet. It's little wonder that Dan is taking a year off! He does need some time to eat and sleep.
