It was announced this weekend at the Edinburgh International Film Festival that Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe will star in the British TV station ITV's production of My Boy Jack, the true story of Rudyard Kipling and his son Jack who was tragically killed during the First World War. Filming of the drama will take place next summer and be screened next autumn on ITV.

Dan had this to say about this new venture:

For many people my age, the First World War is just a topic in a history book. But, I've always been fascinated by the subject and think its as relevant today as it ever was with young men all over the world still sacrificing their lives in the name of war.

I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like in the trenches, living amongst the stench of death and knowing that at any moment it may be your last. But, I think its important we try to imagine the horrors these young men experienced and to never forget them.

I am extremely proud to be part of the production of My Boy Jack and only hope I can do justice to the memory of the men who fought and those who died.

The drama was written by and will also star actor/writer David Haigopens in new window.

So whatever happened to "ITV is a station that stinks"? And that getting involved in TV, especially ITV, is a bad move? Its really amusing to see people "singing a different tune" -- almost as amusing as watching the same people getting the "foot-in-mouth" syndrome hehehe!

wheezy's gal, people can change their opinions, you know.
And not everyone shared the opinion you are talking about, so a lot of people didn't "sing a different tune".
Maybe some bashers can not criticize ITV now, because this proyect is not produced by them, and the proyect is great, so they can not criticize it. Maybe you are bringing wrong conclusions. ;)

Oh my goodness! Dan! You're amazing us yet again! And again a difficult, demanding role... I've visited the trenches and it was so chilling, so frightening. Him being a young man enables him indeed to link to them... me being a younglady I never shared that, but he makes me think. And appreciate him even more *fondness*

Wow, that sounds like a good movie! I want to see it! And it's so kewl that Daniel Radcliffe is really into the movie. I always liked history, so I totally agree with Dan about the subject of WWI. When I hear about something in history, I can picture the people involved and not just the facts we have to learn for school, so this kind of stuff always finds its way into the stories I write. But anyways, I hope this movie will be available for Americans too because it sounds really good!

It is so rare to find INTERESTING historical movies or documentarys. I am glad that Danial is going to be doing this. I always like to see actor(s) in diffrent roles and diffrent areas of the industry. (Perhaps he may even try directing sometime LIKE many actors try to do.) For example Ron Howard, Penny Marshell, and Mel Gibson.

Daniel, in a WWI movie? Sort of hard pituring that. I'm absolutley positively sure I will NEVER get to see it, of course; there's no ITV where I come from, I'm afraid. Oh well, that's the way of the world.
