Well at least in the BigBadRead poll. JK Rowling's creation, Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter novels, was voted
as the favorite literary villain of all time by British schoolchildren.
The BigBadRead poll was conducted by Bloomsbury, had more than 16,000 votes and JK had this to say of the honor:
I am thrilled and honoured beyond words that Lord Voldemort has been voted best villain in the BigBadRead poll.
I am not sure how he would react ot knowing that he had won a Muggles' unpopularity poll. A mixture of pleasure that you recognised his power and menace, coupled with fury at your nerve at mentioning his real name, I think. His author, however, is absolutely delighted.

This was an interesting news article, elaborated on by JKR herself.
No surprize that Voltemort is number 1 bad guy. Rowling having sold so many million books, plus the movies, make it a very well known series. Also, this was British schoolchildren voting. I am sure they identify with Harry since he is a teenager.

Ha, he is like one of the baddest villians ever. You have to be pretty good to make an entire wizarding community afraid to say your name.

I have to admit Voldemort is the best villan. He is well spoken, cold, driven, ambitious, and evil. I love the look at who Voldemort was as a child from book six. It was a perfect insight into his core.

Aaah, that's just right. Although from Ralph Fiennes' monologue in GOF, somehow brought Voldermort to life, Voldermort is evil in his own way. Cunning and sneaky. I shall wait for more of him in book7.

Oooh, I think he deserves the right to be there. Rowling has created the perfect villain. Sauron...eh, he would've had a chance, but his predecessor Morgoth would pose a challenge to Voldemort.

Well Voldermort is truly an evil person. He has done so much more than the others who had won the top five. I couldn't see the others killing great numbers of people just because they were different from him or followers of his.

While I am gladdened at some of these, I am also saddened because there are better ones out there than the Joker. I mean come on.
But it's need to see Sauron, and Lex on there. Lex is pretty wicked.
Cool!

I love that JKR told us how LV would react. I think the part about people saying his name is really interesting because in canon, no one other than DD has called him by his real name to his face. I can't wait to see his reaction in the 7th then, especially with this information.

Ha! He should be up there and it's pretty cool he's first at the moment. He is a pretty scary villian and I can't wait to know what other dastardly deeds he will do in the final book (and what happens to him of course).

That's nice, must be an honor for JKR to have the best Villain in her novels (and for scaring Stephen King). I think he is the worst person in all books that I've read considering everthing he's done :/
