Harry Potter author JK Rowling has updated
her site to squash part of a recent article that appeared in the press a few days ago. A tabloid paper in the UK quoted
Ms. Rowling as saying that "I’m up to about 750 pages now."
JKR posted on her site earlier today:
JKR has written 750 pages of book 7, and told a journalist this at the tea party for 'Driving Lessons'.
Oh pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. I haven't written 750 pages of book seven, and if I had, I'd be very worried, as I'm not close to finishing it yet.
I was at the tea party for Driving Lessons, though, so this isn't pure fiction. The journalist reports that I said that Rupert is 'absolutely terrific' in the film. He is, so that bit shouldn't be in the rubbish bin at all.
Thanks to Peter and everyone who emailed.

Why do people always have to do this? Tabloid "journalist", and I'm using that word is the most loose sense, ruin it for the so many talented reporters, journalists and writers out there.

Well we all knew not to really believe the tabloid. It's good of JK to let us know herself that this was not true. I know all of us would like to believe she is almost done with the book, but we just have to give her time.

The thing is, as much as I am bummed that she isnt close to finishing the book yet, I would rather her take her time and make HP7 as awesome as the first 6 than rush through. I am really excited. I have no idea what is in store for us. Like Godric11 I hope we get it this summer too, but if we dont the world will not end (time will just pass sooooooo much slower)

From She tells The Ticket she is half-way through writing the seventh and possibly final book, but the 41-year-old Scottish author is keeping tight-lipped over rumours she’s planning to kill off Harry.
“I’m up to about 750 pages now, but I’m not telling anyone what happens to Harry,” she says. “I’ve just come along to support Rupert who’s absolutely terrific in Driving Lessons.”

Which one is true then?
Well, I will just have to wait for the finished product which when it is out, it will be a great great wonderful reading for me.

While it would be nice if she had written 750 pages I think she shouldn't be rushed into finishing. She should be left to write in peace ao that everything she wants to answer for us is included in the most appropriate way. As for unreliable journalist reports they happen everyday and it's a waste of time to get upset with them.

so, does this mean she is farther along? *frustrated sigh*
It sounds like she is further along than 750 pages, and that 750 pages isn't very far in this book. Maybe that's wishful thinking. I want something definitive now!

Those stupid journalists always make up a whole lot of lies just to sell a story. I wouldn't mind a book being more than 750 pages though! I'd read an HP book even if it were 2000 pages long! It's a pity she isn't near finishing though... the suspense of book seven is killing me!!!

It's a tabloid. Of course they lied or skewed the facts. That's how they make their money. These are the types of publications that Luna quotes in the Quibbler. And the Quibbler is likely the more accurate and true of them.
Still, I am disappointed she's not near finishing. The possibility of a 7-7-07 release is getting farther and farther away. Darn it.
