Ha Ha I've never heard of Captain Underpants before! Really though all banning does is make people want to read the books more. What is Capt. Underpants all about? hee hee.

Wow, some of these banned books make no sense on that list. Harry Potter of course has stirred up controversy from the start--people don't like using imaginations anymore, especially adults (obviously). We could all use more imagination in our lives!

I'm not surprised that HP made the number one spot. So many people have been challenging this book, even the pope. There are 5 groups of people that are assosciated with HP...

1. People who absolutely love HP, the books and the movies, also known as obsessors-me.
2. People who don't read the book, but watch the movies and love them, but don't wanna read the long books-that's how I used to be before summer of 2003.
3. People who don't wanna read the books, watch the movies but tolerate Harry Potter in general
4. People who don't wanna watch the movies, don't read the books, and don't tolerate it, but hate things more.
5. People who think Harry Potter is satanic and want them banished from ther earth.

If you guys can think of more groups, please, do tell.

I always thought that the people who banned and burned books were one step away from banning and burning people. Seems like the world works that way. Maybe, instead of banning them, they should try reading them.

Of course it is being BANNED. It has uplifting and strong MORAL charecters that have a STRONG sense of what is right and wrong. It is from these views that MANY years ago I became very POed. (As you may have guessed I am NOT a christian. I believe there is truth in all things and it is HUMANITY that should be protected. That is so much the reason I LOVE the Harry Potter books. It has, at its core, the fighting for the lives and souls of ALL people Mages or Muggles. A lesson that MANY groups can learn from.

It really cracks me up the reasons people try to ban books. Harry Potter encourages children to do witchcraft, and that is ofcourse a sign of the devil. If someone can find me a magic wand that really works, then maybe (not) I will believe their reasoning. Never mind the morals and lessons one can learn from the characters.

I think JK should feel honored to be number one. Banning books just goes to show how moronic people can be.

What exactly does the phrase ' Most Challenged' mean? If these books are there because they stirred controversies, I'm surprised Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code isn't there.
And, look at the competetion, Captain Underpants and Scary Stories?!?! Something's definitely wrong here.

What I really want to know is why people have to ban books. There isn't anything bad about what people write. You learn something from everything so the people trying to ban books, get a life, read Harry Potter, and convert to the dark side.

Most challenged books? I don't think any work of litearture should ever be challenged, or even banned. Such works as Huckleberry Finn, and Tom Sawyer have been banned by some schools based on language, which Mark Twain was only writting in the language of his time period, this does not reflect on his works. And now books such as Harry Potter are being challenged based on magic and the potential for a good versus evil story, that kind of shows how real good and evil looks sometimes these days. Sometimes it's not easy to tell one from the other, and this is something that JKR has portrayed well.

I just can't help but feel that some people are utterly clueless. Maya Angelou and Judy Blume. I mean really.

These people don't even know what offensive is. The example I always like to use is JOB: A Comedy of Justice by Robert Heinlein. It looks like a sci-fi novel, while it's actually an pointed and unmerciful skewering of the Christian faith. I bet none of these people have even heard of it.

They're too busy disecting J. K. Rowling and Judy Blume.

Bah!
