News seems to have popped up online stating
that David Yates has been asked to direct Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Mr. Yates is expected to accept the offer, with filming to commence in May 2007, two months before the release of Order of the Phoenix.
We will update this information as soon as we can.

Hmmm, I think they should wait to see how sucessful he is when Order of the Phoenix is released. Otherwise why would they re-hire him? I'm just thinking...But that would also be good. I get tired of flip-flopping directors. I wish they would have kept Chris Columbus for all of them being as Alfonso did a bad job on the third one. Mike Newell was pretty good, but I still think we should wait to see how sucessful this guy's production is before renewing his contract.

Great, hopefully he does a good job on Order. I really want HBP to be done PERFECTLY (unfortunately, I can't have a say in it). Either way, none of the movies have been bad so far, no matter how much had been cut, so I have complete faith in him as a director.

I say let him direct the next movie. He seems to be doing a great job so far, well, we've only seen a few pics, okay, 5 from the new movie, but everything looks good so far. I have no problem with him directing the next movie, as long as he doesn't wanna do certain snogging scenes!

Well, they all say he is quite into the emotional aspect of OOTP, HBP is quite an emotional rollercoaster as well. If OOTP is good then I am all for it!

I hope that he is a better director than the one for the third movie. He was obsessed with art and look. He changed the look of the grounds moved Hargrid farther away and lost sacrificed story, for art. So if this guy is like that the 5th and 6th will suck.

I hope he's as good as they're thinking then! :) I'm guessing it's a good sign if they've asked him to do two in a row. None of the other directors have lasted, and to be quite honest, I'm not all THAT impressed by any of the prior movies. Worth seeing in the theater, and maybe watching once or twice on video, but not worth buying and watching often.
I'm hoping that this and the next one will worth owning. Hopefully yates has been able to rein in Gambon. I guess we'll see.

I guess we'll see. I don't care who it is as long as it's not Chris Columbus. I love 3 and 4 and can't wait till 5.

Too bad we don't know how good the Order of the Phoenix movie is, but he sounds like a pretty good director so I'm happy if it's true.

I'm really interested to see what he's doing with OotP because it sounds like he's doing a great job. If so, I'd love to see him back for HBP. I have come to sort of like switching directors, but if Yates has an extraordinary talent for adapting the books, more power to him! (of course we all know not to get excited about anything that WB hasn't confirmed!)

I don't really care whose directing the movie as long as the movie is great, which is kind of ironic if you think about it. Since the director is supposed to be the one to make the movie great.

Not sure how I feel about this as I have not seen OoTP (obviously) and don't yet have a feeling for how he treats these books. In my eyes you really have to revere this work in order to justify directing more than one film.
So I will reserve judgement until I see OoTP.
On the other hand I am so glad to hear they will be filming HBP so quickly. Now if Jo will just get 7 out so we can see that one as well.
