If Yates turns it down, offer it to Mike Newell! But if he does take it, than he will be the first director since Chris Columbus to do more than one. Very interesting.

It's perhaps only a rumour. I don't think that Emma is going to agree because she said that changing the directors for every movie made it interesting and now they're going to have the same director. I don't know...

Hmmm that would be cool. It would mean they could get right on with working on the next film, and it would providing some continuity in directing style.
We shall have to see if it's true.

I know that time is running out concerning the literal ages of the stars, but I think they should at least wait until the premiere of Order of the Phoenix before making a decision like that. What if its terrible? I mean, Order of the Phoenix wasn't the most popular in the series in the first place... it sold well, but fans were a little disappointed for various reasons. I personally didn't like it upon first read, but liked it the second time. Its a different tone, a different feel, a book more about internal conflict than any of the others. It needs expert directing. And Half Blood Prince will be even more complicated, with all the little character quirks that SHOULD be included to make Dumbledore's death poignant.
Both movies need expert directing, and I hope that he does a SPECTACULAR job on Phoenix. I have faith in his ability, but even the greatest film makers make mistakes.

I don't think he will get to direct the next movie. I don't know why, but I have this sort of "gut" type feeling inside of me. Sorry I couldn't fix my avatar I am at the library because my dad says I wrecked the computer, and it won't let me in because of some stupid filter saying it is considered as "chat". I personally don't think it is at all, but anyway, I will try to fix it ASAP.

It would be nice to have one director do two films in a row. Chris Columbus did it and the films were fabulous! However, I haven't seen OOTP yet so I don't know if I want him directing both yet. But, if JKR trusts him and Dan, Rupert, and Emma like him, then I will, too! :)

I've kind of gotten used to having different director for practically each movie, so I have mixed feelings about Yates directing HBP. Although we've for the most part heard good things about OotP, we really won't know the quality of his work with HP until the release. Personally I have my heart set on M. Night Shaymlan for HBP!!

Wow! Things are happening so fast. I'd prefer to see how he does with OOTP before I comment on his directing skills, but having the same director for two movies will make things easier as he will already know all the cast.
And to address an earlier comment - no! don't replace Gambon as Dumbledore. You need to keep the same actors for the rest of the films, otherwise it will just be crud. They've already done four. What's 3 more really? The magic will only stay alive if the faces stay the same.

I can't believe it! It seems like it's all happening so fast. At least they're thinking ahead. I really hope that Emma continues the series, I know that she is very busy and probably wants to start university what with her good scores and all but she just can't abandon this project-there would definatly be alot of angry fans.

I dunno if he wants to do that. From what I understand Chris Columbus regretted directing two films in a row.
All I can say is that, if this is true, I hope Yates gives me confidence in OotP. So far the signs look hopeful to me but there's no way to know.

I just know 'Half-Blood Prince' is going to be fantastic if David Yates is directing it. He must be good if they've asked him back after he's been directing 'Order of the Phoenix.'

I like that they are planning for HBP already, but it would be nice to see OotP first to see if I like what he does with it. I guess Chris Colombus did a good job with the first 2 movies, but I don't remember if they were filmed so close together???

I have to agree with ILoveHP! I haven't seen it really to make a comment. Don't feel it's fair to judge someone's work in this or any area by comparing it to their previous works. People change...
