Toby Jones, the voice of Dobby from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, confirmed
in a recent interview that his character will not be making an appearance in Order of the Phoenix.
Jones remarked:
I know that the filmmakers have a problem with each new film because the books are getting longer — there's so much to include in them.
Jones also commments on being in the second movie, Chamber of Secrets:
The thing I feel very, very proud of is the fact that I get mail just about every week of the year from all parts of the world — very nice mail thanking me for that way I voiced the character and saying how accurately I did it. So it's a great addition to my life and a very unexpected one. I had no idea that the character would have that much impact.
The article also mentions that the character of Kreacher will be in the movie and that sharp eyed fans should be on the look out for clues that may happen since JK Rowling told screenwriters what is important to include in the movie adaptations.

Dobbys roll is important, However the roll he plays IS minor! I dont really care if he is out. Just as long as they include things like DD's army, Detention with Umbridge, Those things are what REALLY matter, NOT an annoying house elf.

I'm really upset about no Dobby (not quite so upset as my mother, though, because that's the only reason she watches the movies). I am looking forward to Kreacher and how he will differ from Dobby, though. Can't wait to hear his 'maniacal-I-just-killed-Sirius-laugh'.

It's always been a problem in film. You have so little time to do so much and that is the reason why the books are always better.
Still, I'll bet that if OoTP was four hours long the public would eagerly sit through it...I know I would!
It's almost a shame that this series has to end with seven books and movies. But if JK doesn't kill Harry, Hermione and Ron off she might just do something more in her later years after her kids are grown and gone...Maybe to bank role one of her favorite charities?
We can only hope!

I will surely miss Dobby, he is a wonderful addition to the story, I wish that there was someway to save him. He was a nice addition in GoF book also. But I am interested in seeing what Kreatcher will look like.

No...I can't believe it, not again. Dobby has to be in the 5th film...because he has some pretty good and interesting part in the film. I just hope that they change their minds about it, because in the fourth film, alot was cut off already...don't do the same to Ootp :( please

I would have liked to see Dobby in it. Now the writers have to full in a big gap seeing it is Dobby who tells them about the ROR and Dobby who warns them when Umbride finds out there after him...
Still I'm glad Kreacher's in it... we need at least one house-eld... I was really annoyed when they said there wern't gonna have a house-elf in GOF.
I suppose we can afford to cut Dobby and not Kreacher for plot reasons... I reckon Kreacher will play a big part in Book 7 following my R.A.B. theory so we can't afford to cut him!
