It has taken Robert Watt over 10 months, but a plaque has finally been installed
outside the former cafe where JK Rowling famously wrote part of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Ms. Rowling's plaque joins one for Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Treasure Island and one for poet William McGonagall.
Even though Mr. Watt has never read the Harry Potter books he felt that some recognition was needed
as to where it all began and approached Ms. Rowling, the council, as well as the owners last year with the idea of trying to create a writer's corner in the city.
The plaque, with a photo of the author simple states:
JK Rowling wrote some of the early chapters of Harry Potter in the rooms on the first floor of this building.

I'd love to visit the cafe where it all began. Actually, we should be acknowledging the train she was on the day she got the idea.

What a nice gesture and he undertook the task so stongly, without even having read the books. Now that is dedication. I love the idea of the plaque as a historical marker.

Find it hard to believe that some people have not read Harry Potter. Glad they put a plaque up though should have gone up sooner. This is history and will probably be part of the curriculum in years to come.

I wonder if they have alot of people who come in just to eat at the place where JK Rowling wrote. I bet that they are always packed now!
They should put a sign over the table and chair too

That would be interesting to see. It's kind of interesting that other authors have written pieces in that area as well. Maybe there are writing waves in the air.

Woot! I love it when JKR gets her props. I don't, however, know why it took so long. The bestselling books in the world, c'mon! That's something to be proud of!

I hope I'm not right but the first thing that came to my mind when I read that is that he wanted recognition that JKR wrote her books there at his cafe so he has the plaque up for "her" and for him getting tourism in. Sounds negative of me I know, I do think Jo deserves a plaque, especially at that cafe...I just have a nagging feeling this guy did it for the wrong reasons.

I didn't know about the other two writers with connections to that part of the town. It is a nice honour for the plaque to be installed. I wonder if any other such Harry Potter plaques will be installed.

I think it's a wonderful sentiment for him to have done so. In a world which forgets things all good, only too easily it's nice to know that someone has taken the time to recognise another.

I still hope that JKR will make a new book in the same universe, after HP-book 7. If we compare JKR´s fantasy-univers with Tolkiens fantasy-universe; If the Harry Potter books are more or less "the Lord of The Rings", then i hope that JKR will write her "own" books like "The Hobbit" and especially "The Silmarrilion". So i hope JKR will make books about when Snape, James, Lily, and Sirius was kids, and went to Hogwarts - But 7 books is not necesary, 2 books will do fine. The i also hope JKR will make a book like Tolkiens "Silmarillion", where she tells the backstory of the whole univers: how the magic nation was founded, how Hogwarts was founded, Who Merlin and the 4 heads of the hogwarts-houses was.
