Plaque indicates where Potter began Popular (6630)

It has taken Robert Watt over 10 months, but a plaque has finally been installedopens in new window outside the former cafe where JK Rowling famously wrote part of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Ms. Rowling's plaque joins one for Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Treasure Island and one for poet William McGonagall.

Even though Mr. Watt has never read the Harry Potter books he felt that some recognition was neededopens in new window as to where it all began and approached Ms. Rowling, the council, as well as the owners last year with the idea of trying to create a writer's corner in the city.

The plaque, with a photo of the author simple states:

JK Rowling wrote some of the early chapters of Harry Potter in the rooms on the first floor of this building.

That's nice!
Would make a nice tourist spot, i expect the cafe has had it's fair share of tourists since Harry Potter became so big, but now it will probably get more custom, so works out well for everyone hee hee hee!!

JK deserves the plaque.....Although they could have been more imaginative with the plaque....Maybe some harry potter pics, wand or dragons engravings or something on a nice gold platter with platinum writing or something.....that would have been pretty! Oh well, it's a nice thought anyways.

That's so awesome! It's a historical landmark now, they can never knock it down! We have little signs like that all over my town except they're blue and ugly. Hopefully the one commemorating JKR is a bit prettier.

This is the same building that Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Treasure Island? That is really awsome. It's good to see JKR getting recognition, for her excellence in writing.
