It has taken Robert Watt over 10 months, but a plaque has finally been installed
outside the former cafe where JK Rowling famously wrote part of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Ms. Rowling's plaque joins one for Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Treasure Island and one for poet William McGonagall.
Even though Mr. Watt has never read the Harry Potter books he felt that some recognition was needed
as to where it all began and approached Ms. Rowling, the council, as well as the owners last year with the idea of trying to create a writer's corner in the city.
The plaque, with a photo of the author simple states:
JK Rowling wrote some of the early chapters of Harry Potter in the rooms on the first floor of this building.

I think this is a nice thing. Future generations of Harry Potter fans will have another place to see. I think that Robert Watt really ought to read the books, though!

This is a cool idea but like some of you said, the wording is kind of lame. Oh well, at least she is getting recognized and it's neat they are recognizing others as well.

What a simple, yet true plaque. J.K. has changed the lives of many, and created a world that we can all relate to. I think that, no matter how many awards that she wins, the countless metals, titles, grand names, the people of this world truly thank her by their continued patronage. Something like writing a book... cannot be thanked through awards, or fame for that matter. There is something deeper.. and understanding, a unity, that forms between the author and the reader, that is so complicated, so overwhelming, taht not even the author could quite recognize it. Regardless, congratulations to the beautiful and intelligent Joanne Kathleen Rowling, for never giving up on Harry, even when times got tough. For that, my dear, I thank you. Deeply.
Signed,
Enlightenedly Enchanted

Cool, publicity for that guy, Mr. Watt. He must feel honoured, or not. I mean, he hasn't even read them, right? Anyone here thinks he even cares much about Harry Potter? More sales for him...

Yay for JKR! She is just amazing! I suspect that cafe will become a tourist attraction now. People will go just to see where she began writing the very first Harry Potter book. Congrats JK!

Another place I would like to visit. I have been to Key West many times and have visited the haunts of Hemingway on a multitude of occasions. It is really wonderful to be somewhere that inspired or at least was a witness to some of the greatest literature ever written. I am sure that is what it would be like there.

Wow, that's really nice of him to make a plaque of where Harry Potter first started out. Do you think she got the character Minerva McGonagall from William McGonagall?
