We have previously
posted about Dan Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths' upcoming appearance in Equus on London's West End next year.
In one piece
on the play, it mentions that previews of the play will start on February 16th and the official opening night is planned for February 27th. While most of the information may be accurate, official word will not be released till next week.
In an interview with the director of the play, Thea Sharrock speaks about
her previous and upcoming work:
Though Sharrock has worked with some of the most highly respected thesps in the business, Radcliffe, a relative stage novice, is likely to draw the spotlight to the production like no-one else. "The speculation is not my problem," she states sternly. "I've just got to get on with the job. I think you get into real trouble the minute you start worrying about that kind of thing. I suspect that play itself would bring along a fair amount of speculation but then the minute you have Daniel Radcliffe in it, it brings it to a whole new level, but much like him, it's not what I'm concentrating on; we're just getting on with the play."

I still want to know if he's going to be naked in this version...That might be a bit cringe-worthy. I think i'd feel more comfortable if i didn't see 'Harry Potter' in all of his glory. If I did I wouldn't be able to look at him the same way again. OotP would be ruined!!!

I have no desire whats so ever to see this play. im just being honest. i think he should just stick to the harry potter films and that about it, cause he plays harry good, but other than that, he has no talent. man! that was mean, but im just being truthful.

That play sounds interesting... But like she says... the moment they said that Daniel Radcliffe was in it, brought a lot of attention to it... I wonder what if he was not in it.. what would happen... because it sounds interesting with and without Danny....

Isn't this the play where Dan has to get naked? That must be really scary. Especially when you think of all the girls who will want to go just because he's naked.

Hmm.. this is the one where he's gonna be naked right? =P How do you have time to film movies, tv shows and still have rehearsals for a play?? Not to mention school! Geeze, he's a really busy person...GOSH I LOVE HIM!

Dan is NOT been doing a lot lately just filming OotP, but even when he is not promoting himself the media are very much aware of what is going on in his career, Dan will be super busy next year!

Sounds like a very serious type of director, which is good. The seats will be booked in the auditorium because of Dan, I'd bet anything on that. I think that its totally great that Dan is doing something other than Harry, it will give him a bit of variety.

In other words don't bother me right now with silly things like that. Of course people will come to see him, but the director won't want to think about that. Coming for one actor? Bah! Come to see "the Play" (said in a hushed tone).
You know.
I am amused.

I think stage is going to be a good change for Dan for exactly that reason. It's not about the populatiry of the actors, but their talent, and if it lacks, it shows. Good for him for going into it.

Wow, how smart is he?
And WHOA, where does he get time from?! school, filming, press and stuff AND a play... impressive...
And I'm so happy to see him so excited about doing different things.. Rupert did DL, so the only one missing is our dear Emma.. but she seems so not there... she might not even return for the sixth film!! I would be devastated!!!!
Oh well... WE'RE SEEING DAN NAKED!! is there anything better than this? THANK YOU LORD!! l.OL!!!

That's cool. I am glad Dan is able to do other things. And more power to him for doing some acting in the buff. I am sure there will be some bad press concerning this. But he is old enough and HP is not everything, I mean he is Dan not Harry. Don't get me wrong he is Harry. Well you know what I mean. Or maybe you don't...maybe I don't.=p

And anybody (of proper age) that has a chance to see Equus should go. The play itself is brilliant, and is worth seeing in its own right. I am looking forward to seeing if Daniel can do it justice (not that Dan is under par, it's that Equus is especially difficult). If he can pull this off and do well, he will have major clout and should have no trouble with the transition from "child star" to "adult actor". But I have to give him credit for even being willing to attempt it in the first place! It is about as opposite from Harry Potter as one can get. I wish him the best of luck and I will be waiting with baited breath for the preview reviews!
SnapesSorceress (who has a very sentimental warm spot in my heart for Equus!)
