While on a press junket for his new movie Tideland, director Terry Gilliam
answered questions as to why he hasn't directed a Harry Potter movie or if he will in the future.
When asked
if he would direct any of the movies, he said:
No. It's a factory job, is what it is. I don't like that. It's a big operation the way they run it now, and it's so heavily controlled by the studio, considering the kind of work i want to do. But it doesn't stop people on the web fantasizing about me doing the last one.
According
to Mr. Gilliam Prisoner was the best in the series so far:
MTV: What would your Potter have been like?
Gilliam: Alfonso Cuaron's [Prisoner of Azkaban] is really good, but the first two I thought were just shite. They missed the whole point of it; they missed the magic of it ... Alfonso did something much closer to what I would've done.
Thanks to Tim and TLC
for the links.

I guess he has made some good points and understand what he is saying but I refuse to agree what he said about the first two. I truly didnt fall in love with the third movie because it wasnt as I would have imagined it. It had many good aspects but the first two made me feel like I was actually watching the book come to life and thats why I enoyed them. The thirs one did focus more on magic and that was lovely but it didnt feel like "harry potter" Anyway, thats how I feel.

I agree with what he says that directing the movie like this is very controlled by the studio, but i don't think the best film is PoA.

POA the best one? Pfft, alfonso RUINED that film/book, i HATED it! May have had a more magical feel to it, but on the whole i thought THAT film was 'shite'. Dementors looked naff, they wized around like black dust bin bags on the wind, quiddich was naff, the special effects and the werewolf were naff, the dog/padfoot was naff, he completely skipped the whole marauder part of the story...ugh just bad. Im glad that directors not getting a shot though, he sounds so up his own backside its unbelievable. I for one have never fantasised about him doing one of the films.

He looks like Orsen Wells, but I don't think he had Wells' talent. Oh, if your wondering who that was check out "Citizen Kane". Some believe it's one of the best films ever made.

It is sad to note once more that the movies are considered priorily a matter of contracts, schedules and all the like, it keeps great artists out of the way. I wonder whether J.K.R. would enjoy a Potter film by Terry Gilliam. Has she ever given her opinion on that?

OK, just to be clear, I have no fantasy about Mr. Gilliam directing that final film. As a matter of fact, I really hope that he does not. I have posted and do believe that all are entitled to their opinion, however the more I have thought about it the more I believe that anyone, no matter how talented, that is this egotistical would really not fit in well with this cast who have shown themselves to be extreamely giving and humble.

If he thought the others were "shite" than he really should direct one! I actually really like Terry's work, so I would like to see what kind of "magic" he brings to the films, because some of them do seem as if they're missing something.
