Some news about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has appeared in the latest edition of Empire
magazine. In the article, director David Yates states that he has filmed "a movie that's probably over three hours, so I'll have to lose 45 minutes in the edit."
David Heyman mentions a call from JKRowling on the casting of Luna Lovegood and Imelda Stauton states that she is amazed that it took so long for her to be cast in the franchise.

I wish they could leave OotP be three hours. 45 minutes is quite a bit to cut out, and then which scenes will be cut from it?
I guess I can just hope the deleted scenes will come on the DVD.

I hope they put the 45 minutes back in on the DVD! I always thought the HP dvd's should be like the LOTR extended edition DVD's. Those are awesome! I love all the added scenes and behind the scenes, and I would love to see it all for HP too. THey shoot it, we should see it!

Up to now, i still can't understand why they see the need to cut so much out of the book and keep the movies so short. What's wrong with making a 3 hour plus long movie? Peter Jackson did it three times and we all know how well that worked out for him.

NO! NO! NO! They should edit only 5 to 10 minutes.... ok, 15 at the maxium. Im not asking for alot; a two hour and 30 minute movie is ideal to Harry Potter fans. I just hope that what ever they edit is in to the deleted scenes of the DVD.

I really thought that Umbridge would look far more toad-like than that picture indicates. Hmmmm...well maybe it will grow on me. But she certainly doesn't look as terrible as I imagined her or as the illustrations in the book make her look.

NO! Don't cut it! Chamber of Secrets was over three hours long, and it was fine! Lord of the Rings is over three hours long, and they're excellent movies! This book is the longest of the series, so it's not like people EXPECT it to be short. Agh, now I'm semi-frustrated. I guess I'll just have to reserve judgement until I actually see the movie.

I really wish they didn't have to cut out 45 minutes of it. I mean it's going to be a great movie anyways but I wouldn't mind seeing over three hours of a new Harry Potter movie. I so can't wait for it to come out!

Wholly wholly moly- why can't you keep it over three hours? How are you going to cut so much film? I really hope it is as true to the book as it can be... considering the length.

I'd be willing to have an intermission in my movie! At least when they cut out 45 minutes, we'll eventually get to see it with the DVD extras. Not all is lost

It's great that it's a long movie. I think it needs to be with the size of the book. If they do cut things out they should definitely come out with an extended version on dvd that way the non-hp fans can see a normal length movie, and the real hp fans can see the full thing even if it's 50 hours long!

The movies should be over 3 hours. I can't believe they are cutting 45 minutes from it. If they thought all of that was essential in the original cut of the movie, how can they possibly take out 45 minutes? so much of the story is going to be lost. I hope it's not as bad as GoF!
Also, that picture of Umbridge is not at all how I had pictured her. I thought her much more toadlike. I hope the actress plays the role well, because she doesn't look a thing like her in the book, in my opinion anyway!

This is nothing new...All Director do the same thing. The movie always pass the required amount of time and then, they have to cut good scenes or can't make up their minds.
Well Yates has 9 months to do it in.

Darn it! Why do they have to get rid of 45 minutes of it! Even if they kept the three hours, there would probaly still be alot of the story missing. :(
