Some news about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has appeared in the latest edition of Empire
magazine. In the article, director David Yates states that he has filmed "a movie that's probably over three hours, so I'll have to lose 45 minutes in the edit."
David Heyman mentions a call from JKRowling on the casting of Luna Lovegood and Imelda Stauton states that she is amazed that it took so long for her to be cast in the franchise.

Aw! The longer the better for me! It sounds like even without 45 minutes the running time will be lengthy, though, which suits me just fine. If they could be five hours with an intermission, I'd be quite content.

I'd sure love to see a 3 hour movie for the OotP. I wonder why they are so afraid of that. The Lord of the Rings trilogy produced movies of 3 hours and dvds of 4 hours and they have been a huge success. Why not Harry Potter's movies? I don't understand. Is there a petition somewhere we could sign to ask not to cut the movie footage?

It wouldn't bother me if the film was a little over 3 hours. It seems to me the people that would whine about it haven't even read the books. There is a lot of great stuff in book 7 and if crucial parts were left out and unecessary ,corny jokes are put in to get laughs from people that haven't read the book I'm going to be p.o.'d.

I am going to have to agree with you on that same observation, Imelda! I've been waiting for you to be cast as well! I'm really looking forward to seeing her portrayal of Umbridge. I'm sure she'll perfect the combination of sick sweetness with evil undertones.
I'm bummed to hear about the 45 extra minutes that will be cut out. I'd be happy to sit through a 3 hour OotP! When will WB realize this? *sigh*

3 hours and more is all right, it's a pity they have to cut 45 minutes out...That means a great deal of details missing. I hope the department of Mysteries scenes won't be too short. Still, we might get an idea of those 45 minutes in the extras section of the DVD, when it's released.

This news upsets me so bad, and really makes me wish that Universal was the one doing the Potter films. Why cant WB be like Universal is with Peter Jackson. Maybe its Peter Jackson, that I should be wishing for, but then again, I would imagine that Universal would give popcorn away free if PJ told them to, they arent stupid. WB really makes me mad on this issue!

Oh! 45 minutes cut!? Please don't I'd sit through 3 hours - no problem. There have been movies this long before and people sat through them. They gave an intermision during "Gone with the Wind" and people watched. It's a classic! Don't cut it! "Frankly my dear, I don't give a d*@m" if Order of the Pheonix is 3 hours. Keep to the story line!!! Please...

Well, I could handle watching a 3 hour HP movie, but I'm not sure that my kids could sit through it. Although HP does hold their attention very wwell so I'm sure they'd be fine.

Oh my god! "So I'll have to lose 45 minutes in the edit." Why, why, why does every bloody director, or producer, or whatever in the movie industry have a problem with actually making films that do the books they are based on justice! Honestly! How can they make Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix even be half as good as the book if they WON'T LET IT RUN PAST TWO AND A HALF HOURS!!!!!!!!!! GOD!!!!!!
I swear the people in the movie industry are on crack! :P Oh well, nothing I can do about it. I'll live.

They don't need to cu anything. Us HP fans will sit through endless hours of HP. (OKay, at least I would). So really, they can just keep it 3 hours. Works for me.
