Last month we mentioned a rumor that director David Yates had been asked to return to the Harry Potter franchise.
A new rumor has now surfaced
online stating that American director Michael Hoffman
will be directing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Mr. Hoffman has directed Soapdish, One Fine Day and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
An announcement will be made by Christmas, so for now, all we can do is treat this new information as a rumor and wait to hear the official news.
UPDATE: Both of these rumors have been debunked by Warner Bros.

I kind of agree... I really don't care you really directs HBP or not.
It only matters if the person who is directing it, know what he/she is doing. Other than that, No I don't care.

Well, so long as HBP comes out the way it should be, let him direct it. I just don't want anyone making all these vital changes to the movie.

Sounds intresting. But I don't know who I would like most out of the two of them. It would be nice to have the a director back, but then again, (for me) he didn't do a good job, so now I think someone else should have a shot of it.

Call me crazy, but when I first saw this picture (I saw the picture before the title of the article), I thought the guy looked like a baseball player! I don't mean this to be offensive, or anything; it's just what I saw. Anyway, I'm glad an American's directing HBP. Ought to show the world that we have just as much potential as anybody to direct movies. I don't think the fact he's an American would degrade the British originality of the film at all. It's just a perspective, an outlook on things! Alfonso Cuaron was Mexican. He made a fine final product. I'm sure Hoffman can live up to all the other Harry Potter directors. :) Oh, and, related to the subject, I think it's a good idea that Warner Bros keeps changing directors. The story has such a subtly different tone each year at Hogwarts that changing directors is almost a necessity! Moreover, it gives the actors exposure to different settings. It prepares the younglings for what will surely come in their future career; makes them ready to work with a variety of different people. :) And that's that. For now. :)

I hate it when they keep switching the directors....every diresctor is different and when they change it the whole feel of the movie changes too.

After fair thought, I came to the conclusion that HBP is not the most important movie. The movie for the seventh book is/will be the most important. HBP is the second most important. They better not mess it up.

Glad it was debunked, no offense but he didn't seem to be a good fit for the movies, to me. By the way I wonder why they don't seem to want continuity by having the same director for a few movies? I can see why it would be hard to find a director who wanted to devote the big chunk of time for 7 movies, but it seems there would be more continuity if they tried to get a director to stick around for 2 or 3 at least.
